just seen something I have not seen in a long time !!

Calm down my man!!!!
East coast sailors regularly make the trip through the Forth-Clyde canal. All you need is a boat with less than 1.5m draft, a hard hat to see you safely through Maryhill and AA membership for an emergency tow if you get stuck on a shopping trolley.Simples!!

Gosh Oldbilbo, that brings back memories. See the scrapyard? It was once part of my grandfathers haulage yard and I spent many happy hours there in the late 50's. I used to watch the fishing boats (among others) passing the yard goint to and returning from winter storage and the Kelvin (Bergius) works. As to your swimming there, my grandfather used to worry in case I inadvertantly went swimming! Let's say that I was actively discouraged from escaping on to the towpath.
Happy days!
