I guess my Fords are similar, with the low c/r ???
There was a very noticeable change of exhaust note on mine after injectors done..
Nothing in the book either...

Yes appears that the logic would hold good. TK's comment re licking needles in with jewelers rouge seems appropriate for Ford Sabre motors with CAV injectors, however regarding VP's comment re new injector tips and I would tend to agree that servicing with new tips is the way to go. Until last few years Bosch tips were twice the price of CAV/Lucas now pricing is reversed with new genuine Bosch tips coming out at £40 each.

Called Volvo and have the answer at last.

Older VP marine engines with PLI injection systems employed a low compression combustion strategy. A side effect of VP combustion strategy is that injector nozzles run very cold causing internal carbon build up, which in term causes disrupted spray pattern and bore washing, leading to bore glazing at relatively low hours.

OP's concern was a valid one and 1,000 hour advice from VP dealer was sound.

Always happy to accept service recommendation despite the fact that it appears out of step with the industry, provided that a technical argument exists.

thanks Paul, that's what the Bosch agent in cambs said, also stated that new tips could be coming from Brazil as Bosch have a factory out there according to them, (must be carnival time out there) loosing patience with them now, going to see about the volvo reworked exchange ones,

For what its worth my recent AD41 rebuild was eventually attributed to a bad injector, and there were no noticeable symptoms in the lead up to the failure (piston seizing in liner). No idea what the hours on the engine was but they did not come out easy.
Will be pulling the ones on the other engine next winter to be safe.

FWIW the Bosch part no seems to be "0 433 171 404"

According to Google it is available from many sources also within the EU.
Price in Germany apparently € 85.

I'm very well, thank you :encouragement:

Hope you both are well too. That Beer & Natter event brings great memories, will have to do it again. We last went to the UK for LIBS + some sightseeing in Greenwich (which btw. was great).

Just had a call to say my injectors are in yippee , not bad considering they have had them since beginning march, if there is a next time will take them out end of season, although we tend to use the boat all year round, now all I have to do is remember how to reassemble all the bits that I have taken of :)
