You can tell from my Avatar I am a rag and stick owner. but some friends of SWMBO have have just bought a "motor boat" and asked us to accompany them on their first trip moving it from Inverness Marina to Calley Marina on the Caledonian canal.

This wasn't quite what I was expecting when we got there.

They have just bought it, I found the advert when it was for sale, this link might not work for long if the advertiser takes it down. Michael Schmidt & Partner – 2011 Bandido Custom for sale

It was a bit of a handful to manoeuvre in the marine just to get out, but we made the trip without hitting anything.

Sadly I never got to open her up fully, we only had a short sea passage to get to the canal and I was instructed to keep to 1500 rpm until the engine had reached a certain temperature and by the time it had, we had arrived.

I can't say it would be my choice of boat, for the length of boat, the cabin space is pretty tiny.

Quite a low freeboard at the front, helm forwards, not much accommodation for an 11m boat and a somewhat rusty exhaust elbow.

But a lot of boat for the money, great engine access, and most likely a huge amount of fun as a day boat or weekender in the right conditions with “ladies in swimsuits“ adorning the decks.

Adding a bow thruster would make a massive difference to marina manouevring.

I remember this boat being lauched for the first time in Kip Marina around 2011/12. It was custom built and is quite striking, looks like a decent buy. I'd imagine the value is always going to be limited due to the nature of the custom build. Being a Bob Marley fan, I always like the name, kind of suits the boat. Hope the new owners enjoy.

A sensible cruising RPM would be around 3000rpm, having checked that you can reach more than 3400rpm flat out.
Book says 3500rpm max, but good luck getting that with an older engine and anything less than perfect props and no fouling.

Yes the new owners were not well equipped, no LJ's and only 3 fenders on the boat, and 3 mooring lines barely long enough for use in the locks.

The other thing that surprised me is basically it is a laminated plywood boat, sheathed in GRP. I suspect it is going to take a lot of maintenance and TLC to keep it in good condition.

Is it a home/diy built boat?
