Re: Seconded.

I expect you will pick up a mooring on the Orwell rather than anchor. I have moored at Wolverston marina (MDL, but OK in my book) and then walked along the river-side path to Pin Mill in the past. There are moorings likely to be vacant at Pin Mill but you have to get there early in my experience...but Mirelle probably has more knowledge on this subject as has sailed the water for ever. Might well watch the race that weekend once date decided.......and even have a drink. Paul

Hello John,

Obviously, mr. Franco Pace has some work left to be done... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In CB#200, page 38 (130 Mirelle), page 42 (109 Crystal).

Here are some sailplans:

Ah, yes... I didn't realise that had gone down again... unfortunately, every time the damn chip in my debit card goes kaputt, I have to inform my web hosting company... and I frequently forget. I'll get the site back online tomorrow.

If Mirelle has a digital picture available, she can email to me and I'll put it onto the website for viewing if she'd like - if she doesn't, I'm sure Francis Fletcher would have one. Let me know if it suits.

Leon - this is starting to sound like a plan and a half! I'll PM you my email address in the morning (am getting a bit bleary eyed right now, and I have to do a deck patrol as Crystal is making unusual noises) for future planning.

G'night all...

Sailplans

Aha, thanks for those. I should point out, for those placing bets, that Crystal's rig is not (and, we think, never has been) as portrayed in her design. She is Bermudian rigged, still yawl, and now carries a Noble mast with a bit more sail - in fact, is probably a bit overpowered but very able in light airs.

I rather think Mirelle is insisting on using anchors to give her a head start, knowing full well that her crew have far, far more experience than we do in this field, especially sailing off of them...

It would be fantastic to see a few forum members for a pre-contest pint at the Butt & Oyster - if their boats were there too, it would be even better!

Re: Mirelle raising Anchor

In 2003 Francis Fletcher rafted up with Mirelle on her anchor in Secret Water. After a good lunch, a trip up the ratlines etc, we cast off and headed briefly up the water to hoist sail. By the time we had finished, gone about, and come back to the same point, Mirelle (skipper and ship's boy only aboard) had rased the anchor and hoisted sail. If one were to be picky, I think there was still some mud on the anchor, but not much.

Be afraid - be very afraid.

Francis Fletcher

PS The windlass on Mirelle is such a large and powerful beast that if her anchor ever snagged, the skipper could probably wind the boat down under the water to it.

Thanks Leon and Kristal.

Will also look out for CB 200, I am in NZ so will be a couple of months before we get to see it here.

Crisis! Need to change date! ESSENTIAL!!! Can we shift to late June?

I had not checked the date of the EC OGA Race, which is a fixture that we would very much like to "make" this year.

Besides, if we make it later, Transcur can join in (and offer serious competition, incidentally!)

Moorings not allowed!

My Cunning Plan assumed anchoring inshore of the moorings, up river of the hard (up river because Thames Barges use the inshore route to and from the hard at HW.) There should be enough water for an hour or two either side of HW.

I'll try my best, I will have to grease some palms at work, so will get back to you... is there anything to stop us racing on the Sunday, and playing with the OGA on the Saturday?

Ian,

please tell us about white ensigns and who is entitled to wear them!

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,, No, I mustn't tell that tale in public, but buy me a beer next time you have a chance and I'll spin you a yarn involving ensigns, a cutting out party by night in a Dutch port and a small boy with a loud voice... "Daddy, what's that man doing to that big white flag?"

Er, Sunday would involve...

cutting the OGA prizegiving (not that I have hopes, you understand, but there is a prize called the Privateer Trophy, for Youngest Helmsman on Corrected Time, which the Ship's Boy once won, and would like to have another try for) missing out on all the beer, and sailing up the Wallet overnight...

Re: Er, Sunday would involve...

Okay... well, I'll see what I can do... I may well have to cancel a planned cruise to Cornwall though. I'll do a bit of soul searching and decide whether I'd rather brave the Solent or risk abject humiliation in the company of the OGA.

Seeing as the offer has been extended to other forumites, what do those involved think? Leon, would you be willing to forego the friendly for the East Coast Race?
