HI ALL
SEEKING SOME ADVICE REGARDS CHANGING MY CURRENT GLAND PACKINGS FOR THE DRIPLESS TYPE.
ANY ADVICE AND OR RECOMMENDATIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
BOAT IS CORNICHE WITH TWIN TAMD 41s

Fancy Non Drip Seals the Downside.

If you are persauded to fork out for those seals and the cost of lifting out and fitting them.
Worth remembering that if those ultra reliable MS4 gearboxes fail or you need to change the flexible coupling, its not just the cost of repairs its arranging to lift out/block off plus the wasted time ashore, with all the extra cost and time involved.
It is impossible to remove gearbox on Corniche and Princess 330 without a lift out and have been told its the same problem with a Turbo 36.

So a bit of water in the bilge or add anoyher £600 quid to any bill. ?

Tides seals are very good, but as OG mentioned, is it really worth it?
if your stern glands are leaking too much better to solve that problem first.
The old style glands usually work pretty well as long as the packing is in good condition, shaft is straight and not damaged in the gland area, engines aligned and the engine mounts at the gearbox end haven't gone soggy.
To be honest to get the best out of the tides seals you need to check these things out anyway.

Personally would try repacking your existing seals first.
Buy from Ebay fgar cheaper than chandlery and never enough in packet.Make stuff you dig out all the old packing and hit metal with your extraction tool.
Previous lazy idle owners might have constantly forced new packing in the gland without remove old stuff .
You can do this in water.
With all old packing removed with whatever you feel comfortable bodging up, check surface of propshaft for wear.
A bit of wear is no great drama and packing can accomodate this, but any crevice corrosion or pitting will chew up your new packing and will start to leak again.

Re: Fancy Non Drip Seals the Downside.

I toyed with dripless seals and concluded to carry on with graphite packing as it can be redone without lifting and drawing the shaft for a few quid, my old packing was rock hard at gearbox end and rotten at water end and was getting hot as well as leaking badly, now run cool again with minimal drops.

I am confused?

Did the gearbox not come out in situ in this story or are we looking at different seals?
