All of that requires a real owner and a real trip; this excellent wind up has neither, the righteous indignation from some is a hoot to read.

175 posts about a strait forward routine trip. Wow.

Bon Voyage.

A straight forward routine trip?

The OP has
1: Bought a boat without a survey and knows little about boats.
2. The boat appears to be of 87 vintage and has been standing a long time unused
3. He is just going to get in it and sail - no shake down cruise.
4 has a crew he has never met
5. Has little Navigation knowledge and experience
6. Has some long legs in the voyage with few ports of refuge
7. Believes everything a seller says

This is a good post - even if it is a troll - as it shows every possible mistake that can be made!

Take note those who are buying boats or doing deliveries on a newly acquired boat: MOST ACCIDENTS HAPPEN ON DELIVERY VOYAGES.

I assume you are ignoring all the Birmingham navy types that go fishing with no kit & all the people that fall in off marina pontoons after a drink & the tender trips that go wrong and the lilos etc hat get blown off shore, and, and. oh never mind.

I believe so - and most of those are **** in the tank. This time last year a 40 footer had to be rescued just outside Cowes - on first trip since purchase.....

As for Lakesailors - If she/he has bit - doesn't make any difference - this has been a great thread in providing a sensible warning - It's not "don't do it", It "plan to do it" ... Perhaps

Yes - they are not relevant to this type of voyage!

So not "most accidents" but rather "most accidents to people on first voyages" then?

If you exclude all categories except people on first voyages then of course "most accidents will happen on first voyages". it's a bit like saying most people die in crashes with red cars - provided you don't include any other colour of car. Are you with the Ministry of Pointless made up Statistics by any chance?

I would guess that few boats ever have more than one or two delivery trips during their 30(?) year life. They have hundreds, if not thousands, of non delivery trips.

We need Halcyon Yachts here to tell us how many accidents he has.

Maybe he loses delivery skippers every week? We should, as they say, be told.

Probably not an issue for him as I expect he uses pro skippers with experience who make sure they check the boat out first, understand the systems, and appreciate the potential challenges creating plan b's, c's etc....

Doesn't everyone do all that? Not just deliveries but every trip.

Any news from the OP? IIRC he should have been getting used to the boat over the last few days before tomorrows departure? Crew there??
