umbrella

They'll be needing more umbrellas to ward off the deadly rays.
:D

so many uses on a boat

wind kept away

rain kept off

sun shade

handy modesty screen when birdy bathing in the cockpit in harbours

rain catcher when short of drinking water

ideal for catching bits that might fall in the water when fixing stuff

repelling boarders

Should be on the way to Fishguard

They should be on the way from Holyhead to Fishguard today. I left them at Holyhead. The boat is very spacious and well-appointed below and sails nicely enough upwind. Like any boat that's just been sold and bought, there are teething troubles but Stan can talk about those when he has time no doubt and they didn't stop us at all. The lack of protection for the cockpit makes for chilly sailing in the Irish Sea. I've just heard from "Jordanbasset" out there, pushing against the tide and the breeze under engine, but it should have turned now.

A story that needs to be told I think.

I went to watch the Malcolm Wilson Stages in the forests above Bassenthwaite. I quite often marshall at rallies but was spectating this time with my scooter, 2 wheel push along, not motorised. (bicycles get stopped by marshalls scooters get laughed at and it is a quick way to get round the forests.)

I also had a fold small umbrella in my pocket.

I was standing on a corner and a Subaru came past with flames pouring out the back, we all heard it come to a halt some distance down the stage.

A pack of marshals leaped into action and sped off down the stage with some glee, to return about 20 minuets later to report it was a gonner.

More from rubber necking than any sense that I could help, I sped off down the stage on my scooter to find the co driver sitting in the trees with his head in his hands and the driver with the cup off the top of a small flask, desperately throwing splashes of water at the blazing open boot from a nearby drainage ditch.

I did a quick risk assessment and stock take, opened my umbrella, turned it upside down got the driver to take the other side and scooped up as much water as we could from the drainage ditch, and threw it on the flames. By the third throw the flames were out. The co driver stood up out of his despair the leaped back into the car and they sped off.

Anchored in Fishguard new harbour last night; no news yet of today but they should be in Milford H Marina.

Do they have AIS? We could follow them on Marine Traffic.

If the OP is quick, he might get an article in one of the mags on the adventure of taking his new boat from Preston to Brighton.
