I haven't posted for a long while so "hi" to all.
I sent 5 of my lifejackets off to a company for annual serving and test. I do this every year and found a company on the internet which did it by mail order with a fast turn around time.
Anyway after a week i got the jackets back (some were a few years old others btought early 2003, but all were last tested at start of 2003) with a letter saying that as they all had "short" lanyards then they were in their opinion dangerous and their advice was to destroy them.
They didn't charge me for the quick inspection and offered a good deal on replacements but I am obviously concerned that I have been advised that my lifesaving gear that has always passed before (and carries BN,and EN396 etc etc standards) should be scrapped.
i have call XM one of the manufacturers and am waiting for a call back.
Anyone with similar experiences? In my opinion the lanyards are fine, they dangle out just enough to stop the kids accidently pulling them and afterall most of them are gas auto jackets anyway.
Cheers
Simon
