According to the survey Scottish chippies have also been asked to fry Maltesers. The most disgusting thing I ever tasted was from what I thought was a mobile fish & chip shop in Fort William. It turned out to be a deep fried haggis!!! Being on a long journey late at night with nothing else available I tried to eat it but it was impossible.
Whatever happens, avoid Scotland on Burns' Night unless your only intention is to drink a good malt - no eating.
Surely that's taken for granted. Having had fish and chips in Fort William on an August Bank Holiday - grey and pouring with rain - I hesitate to suggest that anything from FW might be like that (waits to hear the chorus of abuse from Scottish members of the forum).
