Re: baseless ranting

No one doubts he will be proved inocent.
Just because it took only 18 days to process instead of 360 or something.
The other interesting thing was that a number of other applications were fast tracked to beat the increase in fees, wonder who they belong to.

Re: Where\'s the fun in

innocent till proven....... he owned up to the rail ticket thing, no proof required.

It comes down to the little things in the end.

If a little civil/public servant had fiddled a ticket for his bird how would he have been treated? I suspect the cost would have been stopped out of his severance pay.

Having it off with other peoples wives is all very jolly. Provided your job isn't about sticking your oar into family life and the moral mess that that entails.

I pray that should my main squeeze require my learned opinion on a matter of immigration and I happen to be the bloke incharge of that very thing, that I'd have enough judgement left in my poor pussy whipped brain to think that political suicide was looming.

I don't know how low politicians are going to take the publics opinion of them but I suspect if we go with them, all that way into the depths, we'll be knee deep in whale do do and our watches will have stopped.

It's beginning to look like a plot to me. If they can disillusion enough of us, we'll just let them do what the hell they like out of indifference.

I take it from your childish reply that you didn't know that you were writing a load of rubbish and are now embarrassed eh?

Re: baseless ranting

The problem with <innocent until proven guilty> is that this is the very man who is trying to erode that basic and honourable principle in this country. He's left himself open to this reaction by his own actions.

Re: baseless ranting

If they thought they could sort it just by paying it back if they were caught, I am sure a lot more people would try.

you're kidding right - this is an incredibly astute observation that blunket has removed the presumption of innocence from the general populous, so is being hoist, as they say, by his own petard.

Or you've missed the point of the entire rant /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

EDIT - i've just noticed that this point has been made already. twice. DOH!
Edited by AlexL on 01/12/2004 20:30 (server time).

Re: baseless ranting

Blunkett is a member of the government that passes the laws that the rest of us are expected to follow. Every law of the land has his implicit approval. If he doesn't observe them he is bringing the whole system into disrepute.

Surely it's right that any member of the government be held to account for even minor infringements.

Re: baseless ranting

I seriously doubt if this is the worst error happening within the cabinet - I'd hazard a guess someone else has dropped a right clanger and they "leaked" this one out so our poor helpless media folk would have something to sell....
Sad really - when you think about it, it doesn't matter what government we elect to "run" the country - the civil servants are really the ones behind it all.....

Who really cares if Blunkett fast tracked an imigration through, who cares if he gave away a train ticket .... what is the face value - nothing ... compared to the rest of what is going on ... its just diversionary tackticks!!

Re: baseless ranting

You are probably right- along the lines of 'a good day to bury bad news' perhaps Blunkett is merely a well chosen victim of the cause. There's no doubt he is the blunt instrument of Blair.

To me it's become more immediate in the past year or two as the assault of needless control and regulation has marched on relentless. It's now well and truly in my back yard and I fear much more is on its way.

Re: blunkett

i am quite enjoying the parade of civil servants they have got on the telly, all confirming how they are demonstrably rubbish and inefficient, and if they say it'll take till january, then even january is a bit quick, whereas 19 days is bizzare or dodgy or a complete screw-up!...

Re: blunkett

So strange to hear such anger at a man who is almost certainly trying to do his best for our country - there are major security problems - a type of warfare we have only encountered against the IRA and we could not fight that 'little' war successfully, so think how hard it is against the far richer and numerous extreamists who hate us so much.

Compared to the rest of Europe we have higher employement, higher standard of living and lower taxes both direct and indirect - Our crime problems are certainly no greater than those in the USA or Europe.

This forum amazes me - winging poms - The political alternatives are too horrid to even consider - an opposition party that can dismiss Boris, who was the only bright light in the shadow dull, unimaginative, dark, cabinet and had a bit of youth on his side, is obviously out of touch with reality and totally bereft of ideas.

I think a little pride in our country, our sports people - Ellen and Mathew - and an admission that we are not an isolated island but part of a greater human, highly civilised community would not go amiss. That a load of middle aged gossips can be so vindictive about the private lives of polititians is very sad.

Re: baseless ranting

I have never cheated on my expenses, most of the time forget to fill them in and forget what I did and have never taken abiro or anything else from the office. That the answer you are looking for? Stealing is stealing, simple as that.
