I'm still waiting for a sencible answer to my kangaroo question.
When ever and where ever I've been, which is quite alot.
Anybody asks length of boat, they get what it says on the side. And in all the years even when harbour boat has been alongside. they have never said. Ahh but what about the davits and that funny sticky out bit on the front.
Now a tape measure is not normaly part of my tool kit and I must admit that its a bit impressive discovering that I've now got a 41ft boat when I always thought 35
Has any one else had there boats measured in this way??
Both boats i was interested in were sold.So i went to dover (proper sea port not wussy marina )Looked at princess 38 was used to accompany cross channel swim type loonys. Now just try to imagine this it is fitted with two 55Hp thornycroft.Bit to quick for me.How much to fit couple of decent engines.?Leopard eat you heart out.
I am afraid all the marinas we've been in including MDL (naturally) ask for hull length and LOA on their agreement forms. Luckily overnight stops just seem to look at the length on the hull as in Princess 45.
However, I agree that they should expect to ignore any "error" for your present years agreement as you have both agreed a contract. You may well have to pay up in next years. No doubt they will have some small print stuff which says E&OE but you should be able to fight it on the basis of goodwill etc.
The bottom line is, do you have somewhere cheaper to move to? cause I suspect it is enforced everywhere.
Byron's point about hiring the length of pontoon not the length of boat in it does not, imho, have merit as soon we would have 60fters bloking the fairways or at least causing all sorts of complaints, or, even worse, the tiny stupid quarter-length rocky fingers that the french use. Last time we were in Cherbourg, the finger did not reach to our mid cleat. Even with the stern trussed up +++, it waggled all over the place until we agreed with a Princess435 on the other side to tie our bows together. I certainly would not like that arrangement at home marinas. Therefore, they are going to charge the same however they calculate it, LOA or hull length or pontoon length. Please let's stick with the present system.
Recently (this weekend just gone) I enquired as to why Brighton Marina have a fairly uniform increase in charges with regards to boat size, ie 10mtr £2360 and 12mtr £2750 - difference = £390 where as Chichester has a similar price for 10mtr @ £2490 but a whopping £3375 for a 12mtr boat - difference = £885.
The answer was: When things are good (people have money) they charge for the boat length and when things are bad (everyone's selling their boats) they charge for the pontoon.
When you consider both Marinas are owned by Premier it shows they are in this just for what they can get. Bas**rds!
Asking price £55.000.!!!!!! and its been well used too impact damage to various bits of hull.Recently been epoxied from what I could see from waterline down only.
Interested in comment about it being at allington. This owner for about two years.Still at the right price and with a couple of decent engines.
It was indeed boatone who suggested in the Emergency Kangaroo thread that he would charge by pontoon legth with ropes out not you sir.
PaulineB then took it up saying small boats got better value by having a long pontoon alongside, but then I got into trouble from markc which you have already helped me with. Personally, I still disagree with Pauline, marinas are selling a service ie access to your boat and somehwere to tie it up, not a length of pontoon or a bit of water.
I'd better stop now on this set of points before the water gets too hot.
