I am planning on moving my boat in the next couple of weeks to the Canary Islands. Does anyone have any recommendations on good cheap marinas that are not too far from an airport?

You have to be careful as from September to end of Nevember nearly all marinas are full...

I will suggest Nemonautic (http://www.nemonautic.com/) "Marta" speaks a very good English
You can also try the marina of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.. just in the center of the city and very secure.. the staff speaks also english..

We left our yacht, a few years ago, at Radazul, which is approx half way between Santa Crux and Los C. on Tenerife. The only problem is that the marina is at the bottom of a long steep hill and apart from a few local shops and bar there is not a lot there except loads of flats etc. It takes about 15 minutes to the southern airport by taxi.

Check this web site--you may find it of

David

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria - it was dirt cheap for us (cheapest marina we have ever had), but that was because they charge on length x breadth, & we are not only short, but narrow too.

Yes, they will be full till the ARC moves on, but for visitors only. I am pretty sure they will be able to fit you in if you are looking for a longer term berth (they fitted in everyone we knew of who wanted a long term berth last year, when we were there while the ARC came through).

There is also 1 private pontoon belonging to a charter/ broker company, that usually has berths.

It's 30 mins from the airport, but no good if you don't want to be in a city, as you are right there in the middle of Las Palmas.

I still was in Las Palmas harbour few weeks aggo and I can assure you that one month before the ARC and during the ARC, the marina is completely booked up and the anchorage very crowded..
During this period, it could be quite hard to find a berth somewhere in Gran Canaria..

The private pontoon you are talking about is the one of Nemonautic and I suggest that you better check with Marta at: nemonautic@nemonautic.com and make a reservation if they have still some available space..

This is probably too late. I'm just back from cruising most of the Canary Islands and now have bandwidth to access the forum again.

The marina Atlantico in Santa Cruz de Tenerife was already mentioned. It seems quite big and in early August there was lots of space. There are plenty flights to Tenerife, but watch out to get to the right one of the two airports.

Another option might be the new marina on Lanzarote, right at the south end of the island at Playa Blanca, it is called Marina Rubicon, brand new and lots of space. Prices are good too, for a single night I paid €21 for a 49 footer.

A more established, but also quite filled place on Lanzarote is Puerto Calera. Don't know waht it costs there.

San Sebastian on Gomera is also very nice, but harder to reach by plane.

Hope that helps.
