macca499 - I remain very excited for you and your purchase and really looking forward to a meet up before her journey to ventures new.

I am really interested what radar and 4g broadband you chose as I am sure others here would be.

Best as ever Phillip

Many congrats on your purchase - clearly radar is useful but AIS is for crossing Channel etc or even venturing westwards far more useful. As an aside if you buy a raymarine unit you might find a one day class at the raymarine offices is still available -. Clearly you might be looking at Garmin or B&G though but just mention in case of interest(being mindful you might be well versed in radar already) The other feature which is really useful whichever make you go for is to ensure it pairs with your iPad or other device and you have autopilot of same make as plotter.
There is a lot of expertise on this forum if looking for tech views on plotters and radar etc. all I can say is helm mounted and as large a screen as can be fitted. I would not have only touchscreen but maybe I’m a Luddite wanting a rotary control as well. Look forward to a few pictures of your new Bav- we had 14 happy years with ours but it was older design of course.

Thanks both for the well wishes! The previous owner had installed a lovely Garmin 12" plotter so I have opted for Garmin 18" radome and Garmin AIS to keep things simple. The only negative was that I had wanted to install a second VHF handset at the helm as it's something I'm used to on power boats but the Garmin black box type VHF is now obsolete so no option to buy an extension cable and second handset, this would have meant installing a brand new second station VHF setup and I couldn't justify the cost so will just use the handheld alongside the down below VHF initially. I often wonder sailboats don't come with a vhf at the helm as standard?

For the 4g system I opted for the very expensive Digital Yacht 4G extreme, my plan is to work from the boat from time to time so decent broadband will be essential, also while I appreciate sailing shouldn't require internet, I have two young boys and a wife to keep happy and figure if I can provide them with creature comforts, it will encourage them to spend time on the boat hence the smart tv and broadband.

Anyway hopefully just a few more weeks now and I will be inviting you for coffee onboard once she is all finished and back in the water!

Congratulations. Slightly envious as I still miss my Bav although time moves on! Hope you get as much pleasure out of it as I did mine.
