Boating During Lockdown?

They are not boating, they are working. Or volunteering to care for others.

It's not the same as the previous lockdown.

It's essentially a ban on social activity. Any outdoor recreation should be fine providing you do it either individually or with one other. Doesn't have to be exercise either.
Funny i'm getting this De'je vue from last march when their were few cases in the community, this time around there are many cases, the economy is in shambles, infections will overwhelm hospitals in as little as 2 weeks, but we are just going to have lockdown lite, carry on doing non essential activities and expect infections to magically drop to june levels

Well it's destroyed our daughter's plans for our first grandchild's first birthday and christening next weekend.

All involved are understandably very unhappy.

And there will be thousands or millions of people like us in similar situations. Covid lockdown fatigue. Whatever.

So as long as we are allowed to take some remaining pleasures in a covid safe manner outdoors on our own or with our household we won't be looking for spurious reasons to curtail them, quite the opposite.

Any idea whether marinas will remain open or boating will be allowed during our now seemingly indefinite period of lockdown?
Looking like it's a case of you can visit your boat but can't stay overnight (how is that policed?) and so can't go visiting another marina. Anchoring doesn't seem to be a prob

Our latest grandson was born at 1am today, we are not allowed to visit them in hospital and the father has to stay in the hospital with our daughter and baby, if he leaves he will not be allowed to return. Thank goodness for facetime/whatsapp so we could see the little fella :)

Perhaps we need to revisit what is Covid Safe with an aerosol virus that can survive for extended periods outside during winter with less UV light and heat to kill it

Many of you should read the Government website rules for lockdown, Google Lockdown rules and use the government website and not a newspaper website. Rules are quite clear on most of the points that have been raised.
Only travel away from your home for essential reasons, they give a few reasons but none involve recreational activities.
You cannot stay the night away from your main home or use your second home.
If you can walk to your boat from home then I suppose you could go out boating if you did not meet anyone at all, but that is bending the rules to suit your wishes.
I think we should all do what we are asked to do and that is stay at home and stay away from other people, if we do not then we will have more lockdowns and greater enforcement, and some on here would first in line to object even through their actions could have contributed to the problem.
If your boat is still in the water and you normally leave it in over the winter what is the problem to leave it unattended for 4 weeks, surely you will have already secured it down against storms.
If you were going to come out in the next 4 weeks I agree it is awkward but i am sure most yards will cooperate in adjusting the haul out dates,

Just got back from the boat, took the frost protection heater (with thermostat) and dehumidifier. Dont know when we will be able to visit again. Looks like it will be at least 4 weeks maybe much longer...

Come on Forum, who thinks a 30 mile trip to a boat is a "short journey to take exercise"?

Good question.

IMHO 5 miles definitely is, 30 possibly not (but time of journey is also a factor), but in the absence of greater legislative clarity it is indubitably a matter of opinion.

As with the Spriing, there is a lot of negative publicity you can bring to our sport when pictures of yachts sailing appear on the TV in front of people locked down in high rise flats.
The media won't treat you any more kindly than they did Dominic Cummings.

We make our choices, the law is not explicit n the matter of going to your boat, there is no distance restrictions, so why is there a disagreement on the forums,
We should follow the law , guidelines are there to be able to allow flexibility in the manner of movement,
IF You were not allowed to sail or go to your boat 30 miles away especially in Winter to check moorings, or other issues, then it would say so .
This thread as others are basing their opinions on speculation and moral decisions ,
Follow the guidelines to the best of your ability and your thoughts on the matter if you wish , but leave those to do as they wish as long as no law is broken and sensible precautions are implemented
As we did not see a spike n the virus when we all could go sailing one can conclude it is not in any way a spreader of this virus

They also state, under the general terms (Stay at Home), inter alia,

1.
to exercise outdoors or visit an outdoor public place - with the people you live with, with your support bubble or, when on your own, with 1 person from another household.

This, on the face of it, appears to add an exemption, "visit an outdoor public place" to the Stay at Home rule.
As has been said, it remains to be seen how the actual legislation, (which is what matters), is drafted. I do wish the government were more careful and precise about their wording of things which they might want to happen as distinct from the laws of the land.

I'm always surprised by the irrational vehemence of the lockdown fanatics. What possible danger could I present if I decide to drive to my boat and spend the day on it? It's exercise. I'd go on my own. I'm not using public transport. Nobody else is going to be anywhere near me when I'm on my boat. What's the problem? I'll be going next week.

Sadly these threads bring back memories of those back in March where we couldn't possibly go to our boats in case the world as we know it ended

And those dreadful songs from YouTube
