All the sites seem to have them now that people have gotten into the habit of using the internet so profusely. The sponsors use it to defray costs of maintaining the site.
I suspect they will soon(er or later) be telling us, once we've become irritated enough by the ads, that they can eliminate them as long as we're willing to pay a small monthly fee to access the site.

There was a thread on here a few days ago about getting rid of pop-up ads, plus another on Motor Boat Chat with some useful tips. You could get yourself a programme like adsubtract which is very good. It even takes out banner ads. They do a 30 day free trial. I think the url is adsubtract.com. Another thought is that you could send the advertiser an e-mail, telling him how irritating his ad is, and that you wouldn't buy his product because of his persistent intrusion into your enjoyment of the internet. Probably wouldn't have any effect, but you'd feel better.

Bill.
