A Pointless Post

Re: May as well go, though.

I guess this person said it best, although she decided to leave it on my blog, and not in here:

Just read your post on the PBO/Yachting Monthly website. This is a yachting site - not the Samaritans. You are not helping women; everyone I know is laughing at you.
Get a grip, flog your boat and spend the proceeds on a good psychiatrist.

Re: May as well go, though.

We are not laughing at you.

Almost everyone who has ever posted here about going liveaboard has had qualms.

You do need more experience or crew before taking on your boat for extended voyages, but don't let it hold you back. You can get both experience and crew.

and your blog is one of the most enjoyable on the internet. Not many put their inner selves so publicly on view, and that alone takes great courage

Re: May as well go, though.

Miaouw! The lady who posted that isn't doing a very good PR job for women, is she?!

I echo what Brendan said.

Re: May as well go, though.

I kind of understand your anxiety, the fear of leaving a life of on land, for a life on water, and essentially the unknown, my only regret was ever to get off at the other side.

I think we'll only ever regret the things we don't do in life.

Try it, if it doesnt work, then flog the boat. If you sell 1st, you may spend the rest of your life thinking 'what if?'

In terms of practicality, don't start out in a blaze of glory, but take a few small steps, you can sail the boat, thats been proven, but get to know her 1st.

Before a glorious Ocean crossing, realise her limitations (and yours) get to know her foibles and gripes, in short personalise and treat her like a friend, if you love her, she'll look after you. You're not her Mistress and she's not yours.

This is the website of a friend of a friend, I havent met him, but hes kind of like my ispiration, my age, and my situation. He had nothing, found a old rusty tub for $1US and hasn't looked back since. See what you think

http://karaka.site.voila.fr/

Read it well, especially the plan, its got some really good hints.

Whatever you do, good luck.

PS- Ignore that womans posting on your Blog, wizened old toad is probably poisoned with envy, that you have the courage to chase a dream, and the possibilty of a life she can't even dream of.

Re: May as well go, though.

Kingston.
Small world. My ex is currently on that boat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was very easy to leave me and merely hop on Tom's boat. His dream continued but it's not his own. It could have been our dream, on our boat. But he's on Tom's instead.
Yes, Tom is an amazing guy. Only 25 and has come so far with his dream.
Gosh, small world. Bloody small world.

Re: May as well go, though.

In fact, I contacted Tom before I ever met my ex. Was hoping to stay on his boat whilst it was in Hong kong. Then I met my ex over the net, turned out he knew Tom, we fell in love, he moved to Japan, I bought us a boat for an extended, Tom-style cruising dream, my darling left me and blah blah blah.

Re: May as well go, though.

And all the above is why I am so screwed up and hovering on sinking myself with the boat. Because the boat was bought for two, was bought for me and my darling and it was a dream of mine and though folks say 'sell her then', even if I sell, I still have the pain of losing the man who I thought I'd sail the oceans with. Still, there are plenty more women like me out there for him to meet and sail with. Not like he lost out or anything. We are a pound a penny.

Re: May as well go, though.

oh great, well done kingston now look what you've done.

There again, it's a very good job codstewart (why that name?) didn't bother wasting money on the shrink before kingston caused her this relapse of several months, really, innit?

Re: May as well go, though.

CodStewart was a pun on Rod Stewart. Pathetic really. Like me. Yeah, that bag would be handy. Only trouble is, I find it hard to breathe when I put it on my head.
I might try my friend's way of attempting to off herself. She stuck her head under the double-sized mattress on her bed. But it really hurt as her head got pushed onto the hard base, so she gave up.
Tee hee.

Re: May as well go, though.

And what was one of Rod's album titles? It's obviously an omen. Go for it and, most importantly, enjoy.
Oh, don't forget the laptop /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: May as well go, though.

Atlantic Crossing(1975)
Footloose and Fancy Free(1977)
Rock Album(1998)
Blondes Have More Fun(1978)
Foolish Behaviour

not to mention the single "Sailing"

Rod stewart

hm, nothing there about a ferro boat though, so not conclusive.

Or praps colin mean that it's ok to go sailing even if you sound like quite a rubbish singer whose eaten a bag of nails?

Re: May as well go, though.

I really think most of you have gotten what

totally off the point. I read that as tongue in cheek. Somehow I thought Codstewart also read it as such - but then you never know as text can easily be misunderstood.

go girl go.... you can do it, as soon as my boat is finished I'll be right behind you, and if..no, WHEN our wakes cross I'll buy you a beer or two to celebrate.
Good luck, Rachel

Re: May as well go, though.

Think you may have it wrong.....more men out there looking for women who like sailing!! Mind you a lot of them want one like Nicole Kidman in Dead Calm.............
