    Vibration/shake in Astern - Dufour 40

Check the oil in the saildrive, not sure which unit you have on the D40 but some of them use ordinary engine oil........this was put into ours (in error) by a service engineer on our boat as he hadn’t checked the spec for our 120s which actually requires (expensive!) gear oil Everything...

    Help! MD2020 bleeding issue?

I feel your pain, had a somewhat similar experience, same engine a few weeks ago. After the schoolboy error of running out of fuel (don’t ask!) I decided to take the opportunity of changing both filters. Once fuel was in (!) started to pump it through using the manual fuel lift lever. After a...

    Volvo 120S-E saildrive. Which oil?!!

I agree, stick with gear oil. I had a helpful chat with Jerry of Falmouth Yacht Brokers he asked for engine and saildrive serial numbers and checked them out with VP. He made the same comment about our 1998 engine beng fitted with the high powered SD. The previous owners had said when they had a...

    Advanced Mooring Systems

Came across this note in the latest RYA Newsletter which i thought might be of interest. I haven't seen the Studland Bay mooring markers yet which are apparently of the helical type but if the tech becomes proven, it does seem a good way for us to go. I'd put a cleverer [shorter] link up but I'm...

Time for new inmast furling mainsail, recommendations please.

In addition to Pete7’s comments, I suggest you would be well served in having a discussion with Peter Sanders about your specific boat/mast seeking his ideas and recommendations, all he ever wants to do is guide you in picking the sail that is right for you and your boat rather than his bottom line?

    Day Skipper online course ?

An identical thread came up on here a couple of weeks ago. Navathome and Kipper were the most popular recommendations, about equal on praise and costs. I used Nav but a couple of pals in my club used Kipper, we were all pleased with provider.

Real life adherence to marina T&Cs

+1 for pvb Same situation at Beaulieu [Bucklers Hard Marina] they operate an 'Open Yard' policy and give boat owners pretty much free-reign on doing their own work. Contractors pay a nominal daily fee. I might be inclined to take your shopping/work list to any prospective marina's and ask the...

    Internal Varnish Finish

+1 Used Hempel Dura-Satin as a single final coat on 5 coats of gloss. The teak surround on hatch entry to saloon had acquired some 'white' patches under previous ownership, stripped back to clean bare wood before starting with thinned coat of gloss varnish. I'm very pleased with the results. The...

    Re-coating a Carbon Fibre mast

+1 Its a frequent topic of discussion for the RS300 fleet, many use single pack but then face re-coating every other year at best so 2pack is deffo better way to go. If you can get it done under cover...do so ;)

    Surveyors

I can unreservedly recommend Nic Fieldhouse based in Chichester who has undertaken two boat purchase surveys for me, the last one in France! https://fieldhouse-yacht-surveys.com/ He posts some interesting stuff on his Facebook page. Good luck with the purchase

    Deposits on moorings

It seems odd that with such a change in policy they haven't issued a note of explanation, its seems eminently reasonable to ask for one. The only comparison i can offer is my experience of Beaulieu River where we have a swinging mooring. 1) they appreciate advice in Dec/Jan as too whether...

    Barton Boom Strutt

My Beneteau First20 has precisely that arrangement. I really like the Strut for all the reasons previously noted, but the downside, if it can be called that, is that when gathering sail to fit sail ties in a bumpy sea state, it gives a bit under pressure of your weight. It is sometimes just...
