    Polishing Antifoul

I have been told that 400 wet and Dry is as smooth as you need for a smooth hydrodynamic surface, you will still have a barrier layer etc. getting a smooth surface so weed / slime does not stick may require something smoother.

2GM20 start key. Gets knocked when left in the control panel where the start is

On my X-Yacht the engine panel has a clear molded perspex cover. It keeps most of the rain and spray of the panel and has 2 holes cut into the face, one for the key and the other for the starter button. It would be easy to make a cover box, with the top and 2 sides water tight and a clear face...

    Fridge recharging

Yes you can re gas fridges, I had an 15yr old Waco fridge, and it was re-gassed, by Rob Wells. He did advise me that any very slow leaks probable would not last long ie up to a year. He was correct it lasted just over a year. He has now fitted an brand new unit. Very nice guy and helpful...

Anyone had Wave Tape Applied to Their Sails?

Yes. I have had the wave tape added to all of my Kevlar sails. Using normal tape the froward acts like a hard edge and can "crack" the Kevlar strands. Kevlar is great under tension but can fail when bent around sharp corners and constantly flexed . The wave breaks this edge effect up and...

Tweaker Blocks or Low Friction Rings?

Deferentially blocks, tried low friction rings, just did not work under load. If you are planning to use in 25+ knts rings have too much friction. (You could use rings for light airs and use with your light weight spinnaker sheets) Good light weight ball bearing blocks, like Harken carbo air...

    Genoa prefeeder

yes, I have a Harken one, very simple, works a treat, just attach the end of the line to the bottom of the furler. I then tape the feed to the forestry just below the luff track.

    North Sails

I have a new set of 3DI NorDac North sails. They are mad of Dacron threads but using the 3Di technology. They look brilliant, set very well, the main is still very stiff when furling along the boom, but I expect they will soften. certainly easy to set and fast compared to other boats, ie my...

    5% Luff stretch?

Luff bolt rope tend to shrink from new, many makers leave a tail by the tack so that the stitching can be unpicked, the bolt rope released and then re stitched. AS to the actual sail cloth, this tends to have very little stretch. you can see this when applying the cunningham. on my 12.5m luff...

    Rod rigging

I replaced my rod at 17yrs, only just starting to show hardening at the rigging joints. So as long as the rigging screws are free to flex where they join the hull or mast , the joints will not harden and should last at least 15yrs. I removed the old rod and had it copied by the The Rig...
