However I thought they’d do a better job than I could do. Seems I was wrong. And in response to Deleted User, your lower estimate is pretty accurate, as for satisfaction %, I still need to see the job, but from a distance, probably 50% max.

The suggestion of getting an independant report seems a good one , to show them if required , the time spent is not irrelevant if they are charging man hours . Good luck ?

Sounds like a p**s poor job to me. With that in mind I wouldn’t be feeling obliged to part with cash and would want it sorted first.
We will probably get ours done in the spring but thankfully we know that NYA will do a cracking job. No problem with paying for a job well done but not for a sub-standard effort.

Totally agree with that. Very happy to pay a good rate IF the job is done correctly and well.
After many years of dealing with idiots, we finally found a builder who doesn’t cut corners and prides himself on doing a fantastic job, he isn’t cheap, but delivers every time we give him a job to do on the house. And, we have found a indie car dealer/workshop who looks after and now supplies all the vehicles for our business.
I have my own company which has an outstanding reputation for service and customer support. If somebody asks and then pays you to do something, you have a moral responsibility to do the job well, if you can’t do it, say so. It’s just basic integrity as well as a legal responsibility to deliver as per the contract whether written or verbal.

We seem to be having a few of these type threads decrying either expensive hourly rates or poor workmanship by tradespeople.

when we bought our boat in August, we asked a ‘professional’ boat valet company to clean and valet our boat both inside and out. I didn’t ask for a cut/polish as we we will have this done in the spring. They quoted £500 for 2 days. The boat was absolutely filthy and hadn’t been used for some time.

when we visit the boat two days later, we were shocked at the very poor quality of the job. I took lots of pictures to show the areas of concern. they said they would come back to rectify the poor work, but not for another 3 weeks as they were very busy!

they said they had spent 14 hours on the boat, when we asked the Marina staff, they said, every time they saw them, they were on their phone...?

my wife and I then spent the next day and a half cleaning the boat. I paid them £150.

Makes me sooooo mad!?

I find it amusing when valeters call theirselves professional.

The good ones achieve amazing results and can call themselves professional in my view. Topaz Detailing are one of the more well know operations in the automotive world but there are plenty of other small independent outfits too.
