Latest was the Dufour 31……..wife says she wants to see it not just pictures😳
Tell the seller to tidy the boat up, vent it properly and make it look attractive.

Then off you go.
Bring some of her favourite snacks and beverages for the trip, and take her somewhere nice after the viewing to listen to her opinion. And maybe give your little input.

Wansworth, there was me thinking you bought the "latest" Yachting World annual as a substitute for a real boat.

PS I have the 1969 one on my bookshelf, however I do have a boat.

I think we are narrowing down our choice,Unfortunatly old yachting annuals are not much help but I enjoy looking at plans and construction drawings🙂

The ultimate family cruiser! 😁

(I wonder when the most recent one was built.)
The Lysander was such a success that in the early 70’s a GRP version was built by Febris Marine on Canvey Island. The last one was built around 1979.
From the owners' association

Nice little weekender, but I'm too old and stiff for that sort of thing now. I'll stick to Jazzcat

I had a Lysander, I named her Ajax. I sailed her out of Newhaven one Spring day ( no outboard) and couldn't get back when it suddenly came on to blow hard from the East. About 5 and rising with a nasty sea running, I ran all the way to Shoreham, absolutely scared stiff and baling. Brighton Marina was still a kid's paddling pool in those days before the Developers moved in. Managed to get into Shoreham looking like a half drowned frightened Rat, the Harbour Master laughed at me and let me stay in a berth free until I could get back to Newhaven. Very steep learning curve...

I think the Lysander is a nice looking little yacht, and the gunter rig seems a good choice (unless, like Veshengro, you're tying to beat against a blow), but the size and basic accommodation is far removed from what today's sailors are looking for, and the era when many folks had the skills. motivation and inclination to build a modest boat are long gone.

Not entirely true. There are quite a few building in epoxy/ply, as quite durable compared with the glues of the 50's/60's hayday.
We launched, last week, a friends Sharpie 600 gaff cruiser and my little mini cat yawl is getting close. The inclination to build, gets tempered by the cost compaired to the relatively cheap boats on the second hand market. Satisfaction is quite different.

We are in agreement. I did say when many were building modest boats.

I'm well aware that a few do still build their own, but it's no common or the cheap option. I would love to do the same myself, have perused plans, different techniques, and often ponder about hull shapes and the magic of turning 'flat' materials into double curvatures, but never will actually do it.

Good luck with your build. I hope you will post pics of your yawl when you're ready.

There i a technique of building steel boats from flat steel sheets using radius chine method.

I was thinking of using the same technique using flat GRP sheets over a radius chine frame and once the basic hll is built it can be laid up inside to all strength
