Above the rear off the battery isolation switches, and below the filter box lol. Some kind of heat sink??
Answers not necessarily on a postcard please .

Split Charge Diode I'd guess...

There might be a label on the side furthest away from the camera showing the manufacturer name and connection details.

Interesting. Its mounted on an asbestos sheet, hence the heat sink suggestion .and each yellow does connect to the battery side of each isolation switch, ( house bank on left as viewed from camera angle ). So if I trace back the red , it should be alternator output correct ??

asbestos sheet about 150mm x 150mm and expert removal?
My own personal approach would be a covid mask, nitrile gloves, damp kitchen roll to catch any flakes or dust and max ventilation. Get a water mister like a house plant sprayer or old cleaning spray bottle to dampen the asbestos down before carefully removing all the wires and fittings. Get the plate into two plastic bags and tape it shut. Clean up well before carefully removing the PPE for disposal. Use quality tools so you don’t bodge at it and damage the sheet, getting it off smoothly is the aim.
Some household waste sites take asbestos double bagged up to about 20kg from householders.
When I found asbestos behind the cooker on my 1980 Foxhound, I dealt with it this way. Boats built before 1999 when it was finally banned may contain asbestos, usually behind cookers or electrics prone to heat.
Yes I have done Asbestos Awareness courses accredited by UKATA, it doesn’t make me a licensed disposal expert, just aware of the risks.

Yes my old mothers ironing board had more asbestos on. Not wanting to poo poo any warnings regarding the safety of its removal , however having spent a lifetime in the gas heating industry which consisted of the removal of asbestos cement flue pipe i will feel confident on its removal if I deem necessary . It may well be superlux( non asy. Fire proof mat ) boat is 1986 vintage.

Aside. My generation as a young kid used to throw sections of asbestos cement garage roofs onto bonfires just for the bang .

Yes Split charge Diode- Is your boat a Vancouver by the way? - I had a similar one fitted to mine.

Yes I purchased her last November. A 274..model.
Had some good short weekend trips in summer .Now on the hard to get some winter jollies done. When you say had did you replace with something like a VSR ?

I had the exact same unit, then somehow managed to blast it by starting the engine without turning the starter battery switch on, which sent a lot of amps through it! I replaced with a Victron Argo Fet which is a more sophisticated version of the same thing and that has served me well for several years now. Victron Energy 2 Battery Argo FET Split Charger 100A

Seems odd to have retained that cross-link on the switches with a split diode?

From what I can see it appears to be wired so either the start battery or house bank or both are feeding everything depending on isolation switch positions , like the rotary type make before break switch. All the wiring diagrams I have looked at show the two yellow charging wires connected to the other side of each isolator ( disconnected from battery when switch is open ) . Does this make any difference?

Yes, they are wired to act in the same way as a 1-2-both switch. When split charging is added it is normally arranged so that start battery is isolated when engine is not running and you just draw from house battery. The split charge then takes care of alternator charging both batteries when engine is running. I would suggest removing link.
