Its not difficult

I did the same on the MoBo forum, post Steve101. Just pick a universal theme, and stoke the fire by repeated comments. I did it just to test out my theory. If you look at a typical Steve101 thread, 50% were from Steve.

Veste, I think this was a really informed discussion about a topic that really does affect all of us in every facet of sailing life. To try and denigrate the thread in this way is really to miss the point completely. The collision rules should be completely and utterly unambiguous and it is sad that some experienced sailors appear to be confused as to boat orientation in close quarter situations. We should really be grateful that this thread has raised the profile of the Dorset coast from the alterior angle when guaging an alternative approach to life.

Side effect of the "Date slip" view perhaps?

Instead of gradually drifting down the pile, a thread constantly staqys at the top no matter how turgid the contribution.....a bit like this one really !!

indeed. I think more topics were covered previously, whereas now it seems that many feel that they can't resist posting just any old waffle, even if it hardly advances the discussion at all. I just wish they would be a bit more disciplined, rather than filling up the forum servers and wasting their time. <sigh>

Sign of the times

I could not agree more. It really is an indication of the deterioration of the info to byte ratio! I remember in the good old days nobody said anything unles there was something to be said. I recollect working beside someone for a year and the only comment passed was "Och Aye its a braw bricht moonlicht nicht the nicht" this of course was code for its time for a pint of heavy and a game of darts.

Perhaps this issue could be resolved by using flag icons to post messages, that really should root out the sillier postings and advance communication skills?

What do you think big boy?

Re: Sign of the times

Not sure about any changes! I quite like the way that this BB (unlike some others) is mercifully free of namecalling, wittering on about the actuall operation of the bb itself, perpetual references to alcohol, jokes, sexual innuendo and especially an equal respect of everyone's views, even those whose posts make them seem illiterate morons.

Reactionary Bigot

Well, the process of change is something that we've all just got to face up to. Just because we're a lot better than everbody else does'nt mean that our eyes should be shut to indisputable improvements. Posting by Flag Icon really should add a bit of colour to the forum.

Re: Reactionary Bigot

It's true that many people will argue against any change - yet in the end it transpires that their resistance was simply based on total ignorance of the actual issues, simplistically believing that the changes would be more expensive, less convenient or would otherwise spoil their lives in a hundred ways. Fortunately, the bb is pretty much perfect as it is, without the flag icon whassernames.

With this and other recent postulations you must be a shoo-in for the recently vacated job at Canterbury? Bearded wonder who's current favourite is a bit AC-DC on the sex front but your forthright views will curry favour with the synod. However, go steady - a touch prevarication, perhaps? - on Jimi's suggested enhancements to worshipping: The CofE has always fancied the ritual across at the right-footers so a bit of incense, flag waving and colour would be highly desirable and would enhance your candidacy..........

I...

could work 24/7 and still not have enough time my tied-to-one-company little friend. Why are you getting so aggressive these days? Is it something I said or are you getting frustrated with momma in the Powder Room?

Kind Regards
