Volvo TAMD 62\'s

A mate has just bought a Fairline 36 Sedan with a pair of TAMD 62's in it.
Anyone know of any problems he should look for with them ????

Are you sure they are 62's , most sedan 36's were fitted with 61a's 306 hp, let me know what they are and ill send you a list of faults occured over the years.

Re: Volvo TAMD 62\'s

Sonar, I will start at the bottom of the engine,
Mounts, early ones break on the threads due to too much thread exposed, if there is more than 1 inch, put steel plates under to reduce height, just done Broom 37.

36 Sedans, engine is very close to forward bulkhead, nightmare changing impellers especially stb one.

Early engines suffered valve problems, mainly due to corrosion and lack of use, but suspect material was discovered.

Heat exchangers will always clog up hence overheating, strip and clean as req.

Early ones had anodes in exchangers, they usuall snap off which means removal, fit stainless plugs into them.

First ones had vibration problems, volvo sorted this out , parts falling off all over the place.

Dont let this put you off as generally they are good, as you will be aware by now that no Volvo's are cheap to run, 306's are generally reliable if looked after.

Other choices in this boat style with slower revving engines are the Princess range 385/388/410 etc, or if you want Sabre's or Mermaids the Humber 38 is a good bet.
