Hi
I have a twin Volvo Penta D3 engines with stern drives on my 30' motor cruiser, and trying to get hold of some control cables, I have managed to find the part number on one of the cables without removing it.
I can see number on the second cable but I'm unable to read the part number, so my question is, would the cables be the same lengths? My helm is on starboard, and the cable I can see the number on is for the port side,
Would the starboard cable the same length or shorter?
Thank you
Lel

Depends on the D3 I see some helm control that go direct to the drive to manually shift the gears , others go to a electric shift actuator , the throttle always goes to the ECU box as the pot sensor is bolted to the side of it . Is the throttle lever stiff on gears and throttle or just gear shift ? If it's gear shift it's possible that your system goes direct to the drive so the boat would need to be lifted out to change it .

Hi
My cables go straight into the drives, and it is the gear changing that is stiff, throttling is fine, everyone I've spoken to tells me the boat needs lifting out, and videos on line looks like the drives need to be out of the water, so I'm a bit confused you saying changing the gear cables can be done with boat in the water!
Can you elaborate please.
Thank you.

If you see any first gen D3’s with electronic shift then these are almost certainly the QL-EST system and if so, all should be checked for the software campaign that effects them!

It needs a plug-in with Vodia to determine if it’s required/been done already, but because the QL system isn’t linked to a serial number it’s impossible to trace them!
