Hi
Does the Joystick on a twin Volvo Penta outdrive connect with a Raymarine Axiom display or does it need a separate screen? - I have seen the Joystick operating on a screen but not sure if there is a gateway or connection that allows it to interface with a Raymarine Axiom 12+

@GallB I don't know of a specific interface for the Joystick, but you can get engine data onto a chart plotter screen via an NMEA2000 interface. Volvo have their 'Easy Connect' unit which would do this job

Specifically what data is it that you want displayed?

The data I have seen displayed when i've watched tutorials on how to use the joystick is when in "docking mode" the screen shows the boat with a circle and lines which assist guiding and aligning the boat - I'm not sure if this requires a separate screen or if it interfaces with most MFDs - I would have thought that given the engine management system loads onto a Raymarine Axiom the Docking Mode for the joystick would do the same

That’s Volvo Penta’s “assisted docking system”, it’s for Volvo IPS boats only and is available on new builds where the manufacturer supports it and as an add on system for compatible boats via VP dealers. Won’t work with non-Volvo boats or with Volvo stern drive boats DPH and earlier with joystick.

Suggest you find a VP agent near you and get their advice. It’s certainly not a DIY upgrade.

I have a Volvo IPS and the boat is a 2023 system, it already has the Joystick but my understanding (and question) was should it interface with the Raymarine Axiom display - the rest of the engine management system does so it seemed natural for the IPS to do the same

Hello again

Have you got an engine serial number?

If you can send me that then I’ll take a look and let you know what items you’d need to integrate with the Raymarine. You won’t get the same display as you’ve seen in the videos online but you will get engine data repeated on it if you install the Easy Connect interface

Ok - these numbers were on the instruction manuals, I'll check the engine next time I am on the boat. I'm assuming the engine will connect with the MFD using NMEA - which seems to be the standard for these devices

Yes, given the engine age they will definitely connect to an MFD via NMEA2000. But if you can supply the s/n's then I can advise on what cables you might need to do so, as early engines differ slightly from later ones
