Using bouy to raise anchor

Hi all and straight in with a quick question - I have a 20foot wilson flyer with a 75hp mariner, used for inshore fishing. I do not have a powered means of raising the anchor, but it is set up to use a large bouy and hoop through which the anchor warp flows to raise the anchor.

What is the best way to raise the anchor using this method - what angle to travel at to the anchor rope, what speed etc.

Your experience and advice would be much appreciated.

Steve.

45 degrees slowly, be aware of rope getting around your rear and thence the prop, I had a pilot 590 and used the ring but had a lazy line coming back into the cockpit, I motored up the warp bringing it inboard as I went, and then when we were up and down pulled on the lazy line to bring the anchor warp back to the side of the boat which was heaved bringing the anchor to me. This way does not require you to go forward, just put the main warp into the front roller and use a keeper. It is easier to do a drawing than to explain it, PMwith your email address.

used the method for years its bloody fantastic just keep it to the lee side and you should be ok we never went particulaly slow you just end up with the anchor floating behind you we did once forget to pull it in and untill we realised we thought we where being followed by a shark thick ore what tight lines Kieron
