Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with the USB GPS receivers (bit like a mouse) that are being sold from Hong Kong

There was some experience info on a thread started by "monkey business" here on 12th August. For some reason I can't post the link. I posted a reasonable priced source too.

Bought one from Ebay about £30+delivery. Like a flash memory card with a pcmcia adapter for a laptop. With suitable software it works first class (land or sea) taking about the same time as my gps to aquire a fix.

Hi Have just got today a BC 307 conpact flash GPS from ebay £72 buy it now complete with ext ariel and pcmcia unit. From uk seller it is the same as some from HK, but no risk of import and VAT duties.
It works welll with Autoroute and Seaclear on the laptop and Smartmap on my PDA.

All in all a good buy.

I just got one off Ebay - £40. I've hacked the cable up a bit and made a different connector up so that I can use it with my XM DSC VHF. It works a treat on the bench with the receiver stuck on the garage door but I haven't tried it on the boat yet. I don't have a fixed GPS on the boat so I thought this would be a cheap way of (a) getting a position readout without having to keep switching on the hand-held GPS and (b) getting the bloody DSC radio to stop beeping for a position input!

I was thinking of doing just that .... Using the GPS mouse to input to a DSC VHF. Which wire is which on the mouse, and what do you power the mouse with? Presumably it needs a 5V supply?

It woudl be nice if a manufacturer like NASA or XM added a USB port on their DSC radio to allow the user to plug in a GPS mouse.

Got mine off ebay for £30 3 months ago - works great inside the boat (unlike my handheld) - pickup time is lesss than 2 mins and works fine with Maxsea and Cmapecs

Just received my eBay bought USB GPS mouse direct from Hong Kong. Seller was flashmaker003 - he is selling them all the time.

It cost me £27 plus £10 postage. Took 10 days to arrive from close of auction which is not bad. No customs or VAT charges as sender declared it as a gift!

Self powered USB interface works well and is picking up a position inside my office window - working well with MS autoroute

Only comment so far is that GPS has installed as Com 7 on my notebook and on my desktop as Com 3 - I am not sure my nav software offers any other options than Com 1 or Com 2 for GPS input.

Maybe I can reconfigure this in Windows somehow - anyone any ideas?
