Unsinkable... so was the Titanic... etaps et al....

I remember a report in one of the yachting mags about a test sailing an Etap across the channel with the seacocks open. She was half filled with water and still seemed to sail well.
 
Has been tested a number of times according to the website. I would imagine that the additional weight is taken into account for the bigger boats?
 
But at least he went down with his ship. I may be the skipper but if my boat is going down I am gettting off and into the life raft.
 
Titanic was built in steel, not in itself inherently buoyant, don’t know about Etap, but BigWow is built using foam sandwich construction which is buoyant, ergo 100% unsinkable
 
I'd still rather be in a steel boat rather than a foam sandwich construction if I hit an iceberg.

a foam sandwich constructed boat will still float full of water
 
Foam sandwich cat in South Africa severely damage a keel on a reef, then sailed home with water up to the bridgedeck.
 
Maybe the yachting mags could do a boat test to see how many tons of mass could be loaded onto a yacht before it sinks.
 
I’m going down to do some jobs on my “floating tea trolly” in which there is so much room it echoes when we talk and regularly sails at 10+ knots, I'll catch up on this thread when I get back
