TV Ending

It something that I have been thinking about for a few weeks now – prompted by past postings on this forum. [didn’t watch TV last night surfed instead and poor UK TV yachting coverage]. Also the BBC has just announced its worst ever viewing figures – less than 25% of population watch it! [can that be true?]

Are we witnessing the end of TV as we know it ?

I was really disappointed with the coverage that UK TV has decided to give the Vendee and latterly Ellen/B&Q (nil or thereabouts) but then I started to playing around with the available web sites. The Vendee’s one is superb and today in an idle moment I got stuck into the video section. Downloaded the latest Real Video – full screen - the lot.

Well that’s it – in future you will pick the sport activity news event that you personally interested in the and the internet will do the rest – quality motion pictures sound the everthing.

Wont be long before it equals TV quality and you will be able to tailor viewing to your personal interests rather than getting some of the garbage that purports to be entertainment shoved down your throat.

I can see the future ! ……. It’s the end !…….discuss

Bucking the Trend

Ther has been great sadness in the House of Claymore of late due to the demise of the true and faithful computer - Alice.
However - no sooner was the requiem mass over when in came the replacement - as yet innominate. It has a TV viewer on it and its quite something - looking forward to watching the stuff that Dear Heart dissaproves of - Westerns, Rugby, Clint Eastwood etc

Re: Bucking the Trend

Web tv is certainly where it's heading. The down side to that is it will all end up being pay-per-view and we'll all be worse of. Murdoch is investing heavily in this area. We will see more and more PCs with TFT screens and in built tv tuners, hi-fi audio, DVD recorders (which can record directly from the tv), a sort of hi-tech entertainment centre.

Web tv will allow better coverage of the none moneymaking sports but somebody will have to fund it.

As far as the Beeb is concerned, they long ago lost their way and don't know whether they are a public service brodcaster or a commercial one and end up somehwere in the middle.

Just think. Everybody watches what they want and with the general dumbing down, people risk being even less well informed of important events than they are at present. But they still have a vote.

I must say I used to look forward to my trips back to the UK to get to watch some quality television. I haven't had that reaction for years now and it seems to be getting universally bad elsewhere too.

Can see some snooker though.

You will find 99% of UK ex pats have UK TV in Spain - have a look in any free English paper.

I tend to agree that the BBC has lost its way - I felt that some years ago - once it was staffed by ex theatre and film people then gradually the management became more important than the program makers and they started employing University Graduates rather than show biz folk - if you had a degree you must be good..

I think we have wonderful television in Europe generally - the satellite gives us a vast range of programming to look at to suit every taste but you have to be selective and not expect just one or two channels to provide everything you want 24/7 on a plate.
