I have a trolling valve on my Ocqueteau 645 but I have no idea about when and how to use it. Can anyone please enlighten me????

A trolling valve fitted to a hydraulic gearbox, when operated, reduces the hydraulic pressure on the wet clutch alowing it to slip which reduces your speed. Very useful on a powerful motorboat that goes too fast at idle in gear for maneuvering or for fishing. Not a good idea to use the trolling valve at medium or high reves as the wet clutch can overheat.

Thank you for that. My engine is only 50hp so I can't understand why there is a trolling valve fitted. I can crawl along at fishing speed in normal gearbox operation????

I had a Ocq 645 a few years back... The engine was a Volvo TAMD21 which pushed out 105hp... I didn't have a valve on mine but it would have been handy when trolling with lures at 1-2knts.

Would love to have one on my gearboxes as there are so many 5km/h (2.7knt) or no wake speed limits around here that you are in and out of gear so often, walking the boat down a line of parked boats using one engine then the other and then back again.
And as the engines sound so meaty with only 145hp that even at 4km/h I'm getting told to slow down, at idle the engines are producing around 40hp each and that gives me 7 - 8km/h on one engine
