Refilling engine room extinquisher

Hello friends !

I,m sorting out some issues for next season amd this is one of them .

Anybody of you having experience with this type of italian powder extinquisher ? ( installed on a gobbi 375sc )

Its an automatic ( thermal ) and manual pull system where i need to refill the bottle .

The manual pull cable was screwed with a spring into the discharge valve

-does the valve mechanism should stay attached or unscrewed from the bottle ?
-when the cable is pulled out , does it mean the discharge valve is open ?

Is the bottle out of powder, or out of pressure?

If it's powder I'd ditch it for one of the vaporising types so if you have to use it you don't destroy the engine.

Out of pressure in any case , out of powder i don,t know . There are no signs there was ever a fire in the engine room so i assume the system was never discharged .

As it has lost pressure, it must have a leak somewhere or been set off. Also how old is it ?

As old as the boat probably . 2001 .

I might indeed go for a replacement of the bottle . The system looks not bad . There is a remote piping from the bottle and nozzles directly aiming on both engines and a third nozzle aiming on the generator .

Sure i will also need a new remote discharging distributor in this case . Hopefully the existing linkage from the cockpit cam be used .

Maybe look at Stat-X - standalone canister(s) in the engine room - the only maintenance is replace every 5 years - Marine Fire Safety is a good company - no affiliation but have dealt with them commercially over the years

Halon is banned but there are modern alternatives - some called “clean agent” and some which use a “water mist” (compatible with more fires than normal water). Remote triggers and “distribution” systems takes it beyond the typical leisure customer install.

Agree. You also have to ask if it's actually necessary on a 38ft sport boat, such as the OPs.

I think i'd take the existing system out and fit something like one of these ; (for example) :

Stat-x replacement / maintenance by Marine fire safety is every 10 years not 5, a service life I think is 15 years.

Edit, I'm referencing non commercial.
