Having successfully found a supplier for the float needle valve on my Suzuki 7.5 hp outboard I thoroughly cleaned the carb and all jets before reassembly.
The engine will not start except from adding easy start but it will only run whilst spraying.
This suggests that no fuel is present but on checking the carb has fuel in it.
Have been told that there may be "valve" in the inlet manifold which is preventing a vacuum to draw the fuel through.
Have not heard of this does anyone know I f this engine which is from 1978 has such a valve.
Does anyone have a picture of it as I do not have a manual for this motor
Any advice or information appreciated.

Normally called a Reed valve if the engine is 2 stroke. Thought that they were between the fuel pump and engine or even part of the fuel pump. Never had a problem with this part on the yamaha malta's that I can remember.

Reed valves in two-stroke engines have been placed in the intake ports and also in controlling the intake to the crankshaft space.

What engine ? 2 or 4 stroke ? Is the fuel tank internal (gravity fed) or external (engine has fuel pump ) could be a faulty fuel pump.

The fact it runs on easy start eliminates a problem with the reed valve. If there is fuel in the float chamber then there is a problem with the jets as its not getting up to the venturi, you can test this with the carb off by holding the throttle plate open and blowing through the carb with compressed air, you should see fuel being drawn out of the jet from the float chamber.
