Our trip to Venice was a success. SHMBO was greatly encouraged.
She thought those black pointy tenders about the right length. Having a chair on them was a good idea, and having singing as we went calming, but why didn't they put two of those paddles on the back for better stability while parking. Dressing the porter in stripes and making him stand tall was a good idea, safety you see, he looks like those Cardinal bouy-things.
Very happy to see all the blue boats with flashing blue lights and men with guns and hair-driers pointing at the other boats. A good secure feeling, she had. And those 5 red boats with lights, lined up, fire-boats at the ready, why don't they have them in Cornwall?
The brown-flecked blue water obvious inspired the Venetian glass makers, and all the traffic lights on the lanes and a speed limit of 5 KPH was about right. Bumping into the other boats and the taxi's made it fun. Toilets every two miles was a bit discouraging, but nobody would notice if it we went in one of those waterways in the back alleys.
Being in site of others living rooms was far more satisying than just being in sight of land. She could chat and boat. And paddling across the St Marco Piazza was not very satisying, perhaps sand on the bottom would help, but no she couldn't wait until today's tide to try swimming across.
Harry's Bar was OK for a wee, but the clients were a bit posh for us boaters, but all ports should have those coffee houses with bands and coffee, small but tasty at €12 a cup, and sing right at me like that sweet Italian baratone.
The lowest road death toll of any city in Europe, wasn't that good news, and those friendly people (natives?) out so late at night selling those cheap orange handbags, leather-lookalike just like that Sealine and called PRADDA, like she'd seen in the shops. At €150 for cash it was slightly cheaper than that tender ride, and it was something she could always use to remind her of her visit to Venice.
So where do we go next.....
A man and his boat do not need to be justifed....
