Trader – does a leopard ever change it spots?

ok guys, we have just got back, Very interesting, the chaps at Hamble were very nice and knowledgeable we viewed Grand Banks 59 - not for us
Fleming 65 - very nice topsides and main living area but a bit disappointing in the cabins - why it could not have a transverse master cabin I don't know. The master cabin is in bow and quite small, also the headroom in the engine room was very restricted - such a shame as the topsides, and main living areas were really fantastic.
We then viewed the Grand Banks 65 - unfortunately this boat was to long for our mooring.
Have to say though that the guys we met were a breath of fresh air clearly knowledgeable and very informative and a special thank you has to go to Paul who was the owner of the Fleming who kindly brought her from Cowes over for us to view - this we understood necessitated an early slip of 7,am - THANKS PAUL!
How does that leave us in our quest - we need to view the Aquastar 65 and we have arranged a trip to Guernsey next week to view. We hope that this one last make might compare to the Trader - if not we have some deciding to do.
Keep you all informed. - watch this space !

Out of interest why was'nt the GB59 not for you? Agree with you about the Flemings. Fab boats but they're behind the market by continuing with forward master cabins

I have just arrived at the boat at Emsworth only to find very , very little work done. I have been enticed here on an empty promise and should never have trusted them. I frankly very concerned it will ever be ready, let alone this season. Thinks like the hyraulic pump sjust laying there week after week, the side vents still not on - they have known about that for months - keel still not finished as we enter week 7, no new engine room roof - the boat is in a mess and I think Tony Chappel does not give a toss.

I have a new advertising slogan for him - 'You are awlays alone with a Trader.'

Trader have not contacted me all week to give me the timings for jobs - Trader have made no arrnagments to meet me this weekend - its all in the air.

Frankly there is no apology, the word sorry has not been said in 15 months. So totally p******d off tonight - I really did not want to put all that effort into another blast at them but it seems there is no ther way.

Glenn - take a look at Horizon Motor yachts - they are very like the Traders and may appeal.

Hi Paul sorry to hear your work is still not done, instead of flying all over the countryside Mr Chappells time would have been much better utilised by overseeing your work personally
I have looked at Horizon but it looks very much to me like a planning Hull and not a semi displacement /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Horizon 20M is semi-displacement and I can assure you it is a very fine boat. We chartered the Horizon last season and are so pleased that we have placed an order for delivery early next year.
We previously were intent on purchasing a Trader 64 but having spoken to several Trader owners would no longer be prepared to go though the agonies that they all seem to suffer.
Suggest you contact Horizon UK and charter their demonstrator for a few days and fall in love with a fine well built boat.
Please email me if you would like to talk on the phone. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Paul, We have booked to fly out to see Aqua-Star 65 in Guernsey next Saturday. so maybe they will prove a possible contender to the Trader. I will keep you posted with both the Wales situation and Aqua-Star

Thanks.
The Aquastar has a very good layout and you can change it.

It is worth looking at the Horizon - you are a seriuos buyer so I would insist on a visit down to them and a sea trial. I think they are agian a bespoke boat.

That would mean that apart from the Marlow which has about the same bean as the Aquastar yoiu have just about seen what the market has to offer.

the aquastar 65 is even wider than the Marlow - another foot.

I'd look again at Marlow if that sort of beam is acceptable.

Paul - thanks for showing me around your vessel today - I can see why you went for it and hopefully one day you might get to enjoy it fully!
I assume with the current rate of work, you'll be buying a house down here to keep a closer eye on things .... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

AF was 1/2 done by the time I got back .. and my coffee cold ... but I did fix the heads inlet valve /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Someone might like to have a look at EU trading law.
I'm no expert but when I had my business, as a supplier through dealers you simply cannot do this. The EU laws we were facing stopped us from insisting that European end users must buy from within their country. In other words if you live in France and want to buy a particular item that is available in France and Spain, you have the right to buy it in Spain. From memory, it was also illegal to price it in such a way as to achieve your goal.

In this case, however, I doubt that Trader Wales want to upset the applecart - but Glen might get some satisfaction by pushing the point.

Volkswagen (VAG) were fined 17.7 million (as I recall) for failing to supply cars to their mainland europe dealers for export.

How can he e-mail you without your e-mail address? Your profile is suspiciously blank. If I was more cynical, I might even suggest you are connected with Horizon Yachts

Glenn,

I'm sure you've realised that buying a Trader is simply not on the cards! I am astonished beyond belief by this latest twist in this sorry, sordid, tale of inadequacy.

Elegance

I agree that Elegance may be worth a look.

We have had a good look at them and they seem vv well made. The 64 looks like a planing hull, but is actually SD, so you get SD accomodation and practicalities whit slightly more snazzy looks than the likes of Trader, Fleming, GB etc.

There is a significant degree of customisation available.

They will also do the interior pretty much any way you like, modern, chintzy or old fashioned. However if you look at second hand ones it has led to some "interesting" colourschemes, especially by the German owners....

Re: Elegance

Deleted User, sorry to rattle your cage but I was trying to be helpful to Glenndraper. No I am not connected to the Horizon organization in any way whatsoever other than as a customer.
The Elegance you suggest Glenn looks at is made by the same yard as the Horizon with the Elegance being styled to the German market and the Horizon to the rest of the world. I was under the impression that my email could be accessed by Glennn Sometimes it does seem to me that certain contributers need to be a little more considerate to new users who are not as conversant with the workings of the forum as they are.
