Trader – does a leopard ever change it spots?

I am just back from Emsworth - Trader broke its word on so many jobs last week - in fact only one out of a list of about 60 was done.
They had just one chap doing all the work including the keel and are simply not devoting the resources to get it done as we enter 2 months down at Emsworth!!!

Its the same old, same old. I basically had to threaten a lot more publicity if the agreed jobs are not done this week. Chappell has gone sking in the USA - forgive me but i cannot help have some nasty thoughts on what could happen /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I really have no choice but to plug away and plug away.

They have been given the opporunity to remedy but have not hnoured it - for example a hydraulic pump has been off now for over a month - gearbox problem left etc etc etc.

All I want is for trader to care enough, even have honour enough to actually do the agreed jobs - thats all. They are the worst run business I have ever encountereed in my life. I am more fed up now than ever and spend every weekened with all the hassle of fighting to get the basic jobs done - and whilst that is happeneing tony Chappel ensure there are not suffienct resources to honour his word and then goes bloody skiing!!!!!

I have told them that I will explodew with publicity this weekend and they know that the last blast cost them a number of boat sales - they must be totally mad not to honour their obligations and get my boat seaworthy and as it should be. In 15 months I have hardly any use out of her. yet TC does not even blush.!!!!!

Hi Deleted User,
Thanks for your input at your suggestion we have looked at their web site and although they look impressive - again the hulls look like a planing hull and not a semi perhaps they are but unfortunately they do not have tech details with regard to range etc. I think we shall look at Aquastar first before going off at a tangent - thanks once again for the suggestion

Hi Paul
I know you are wound up but dont make it worse for yourself, it looks like you have only been in Emsworth with Ocean Deep only 4 weeks not two months, looking at one of your old posts, come on down and have a cupper with us

((((((((( Ocean Deep Update
#1356090 - 20/02/2007 10:34 Edit Reply Quote Quick Reply

Ocean Deep is now at Emsworth and all the jobs have been accepted. It did help when the keel did the same thing when it was lifted out and out down on the dry at Emsworth so the work includes a new keel with a stanless steel shoe. There are a fair number of significant jobs to do - my guess is another 5 weeks but we shall see. The attitude of James at Trader is great and we are working togther to get it all done properly. ))))))))))

Chris
We arrived at Emsworth at the end of January. - we pass 8 weeks this coming Wednesday.
I stayyed silent for the first 4 weeks or so and only entered up on the Ocean deep forum late on.
Even after 8 weeks I am simply getting the run around from them.

I will pop down for a cuppa in the week /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Cheers
Paul

Two things spring to mind here....

1) glenndraper - you have 1.5m to spend... Why oh why oh why would you even CONTEMPLATE buying something that
a) Has clearly given Gludy such hell
b) Is being sold by someone that you took a dislike to for a proper reason rather than a "feeling"

2) With the negative publicity that is now happening on here - (and the word WILL spread) I doubt Trader Elmsworth will exist in 2 years - and will Trader Yachts even survive?

Buy something else - anything else - but buy something else....

OR

Don't hand over one single penny until the boat is finished and you've had 2 independant surveys done on her - and as I am sure this won't be an option - walk away - £1.5m is one hell of a lot of money - don't lose it.

Do not forget that even a survey cannot pick up major things through no fault of the surveyor.

In my case the fact that the thrust of the engines driving the entire boat was secured by a few self tapping coach bolts into about 1/4 inch of fibregalss could not be seen and was noit known about until the entire thrust bracket lifted and the bolts popped out.

The lack of side baffles so that water was directed stright into the engine room roof with the result that the entire engine room was washed in alt water with light fitting filling up with water etc was not known about until we had the weather conditions.

So even a survey and some sea trials will not reveal all that Trader can manage to miss out or do wrong on a boat.

My boat arrived in Emsworth in the first few days of December 2005 - now some 15 months later and with very little use it is bacl at the yard with a token amount of resource provided and frankly an attitude that borders on the unbelievable.

Amongst all this simply not honoring the understakings given to me for speedily repairing my boat, Tony Chappell managed to have an unsavoury meeting with Glenn, a customer wanting to buy one of his boats through, to the best of my knowledge, Trader's only remaining dealer. - Trader again and again demonstrate a total lack of regard for customers that borders on as others have said a 'death wish'. IMHO it is that TYC simply cannot see it - they are immune to the pain caused to customers who spend years getting their new boats put right. It is amazing, totally amazing.

I agree with you, with the issues you have I too would not be happy that the MIC buggars off sking.

Clearly they are still not taking the problems you have seriously.

In your later post here I see you mention the surveyor and how he might miss the self tappers. What I have leant from here is that if i ever commission another new boat i will have a surveyor on site for all the major steps during build - esp if its in the F East. Absolutely essential IMHO.

Yes I agree.
In fact I am having any new boat surveyed during build no matter which source it comes from.

I hope that this weekend will see some of the promises made for this week actually carried through. I am frankly scared of having to cancel all my Spring plans, which is a bit much when I have spent so much money and out so much time into trying to get her right. it has been the most tortuous 15 months with just non-stop hassle only to be in the same old rut I started in with the first 6 months spent going down to Emsworth every weekend.

I even got a Trader day invite this week - that made me smile!!! Mind you I may still be there!!! If so customers may have to step over a few bodies laying around the marina and offices.

If TC was acting in a rational manner then it would be easier - he would see that in his own self interest he has to get rid of me but no - IMHO he acts in a manner that I never thought any business person could act in and survive for so long. It frankly still amazes me and, I think, always will amaze me.

The cost in lost orders that I know about would have made it very worth his while to just refund me but no - I still battle for everything. For example, I am paying them to anti-foul the boat when in reality the least they could do is give her another coat because I have never really managed to use her much.

Hi Paul just a thought, When Tony visited me one thing he said was that he didn't think a small number of people on this blog could harm his business - What if you took him up on his invitation and turned up with a banner/placard exhorting the benefits of buying a trader yacht - if you know what I mean. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Glenn
That amzes me and shows why the resources are not being devited to getting a new boat to work properly after 15 months!!!

Well, I know directly of 6 boats that they have lost sales for as a result of my publicity. That is a lot of money. Because I thought he knew directly of some if not all of those, that he would want to get rid of me. I frankly never expected a simple honouring of his obligations both legal, moral and business wise but i did expect a reaction to the cost to him of the publicity.

Well, that has shaken me but now we know. Tony obviously thinks he is above us all and that we are just a small group without influence at all ..... Thanks for telling me. At least it now makes sense.

Glenn - I really hope that you understand that I am not the exception here and I really do hope that you do not purchase a boat from Emsworth.

Glenn/Paul, Tony Chapell is wrong as this blog listing your terrible treatment by Traders was the one major influence in our decision not to proceed with the sea trail and subsequent purchase of the new Trader 64 as I could not risk such a large sum of money with a Company who did not appear to honour their obligations.
Our choice was between the Trader 64 and the Horizon 20M and the Horizon won because of the service we received from the UK agents.

Thanks for that.
I know of other buyers who were about to order as well.
However, whilst I know tony is wrong, the way he acts in not devoting the resources to the job etc does indicate that he does not know he is wrong.

Frankly I am not just being treated badly, I am being treated like dirt. My boat stands out of the water at Emsworth, 15 bloody months old and only now having its keel fitted - the gearbox is losing oil, the engine roof being reaplced plus about 40 other jobs all of which should never have happened. The main hours she has done has been leaving Emsworth for swansea and returning to Emsworth.

There used to be a cig advert - 'You are never alone with a Strand".

I can promise "You are always alone with a Trader!" /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Beleive me, not only will I move heaven and erath to get this boat fixed without it spending the summer at Emsworth but I will ensure that i get full compesnation for the lack of use and large expenses.

seriously Paul why don't you placard the place on its open day - just stand at the entrance there is nothing they could do about it - perhaps enlist one or two mates to hold banners as well - there open day would turn into a complete disaster

and a public footpath runs right through the yard....just out for a walk with a placard round your neck eh? /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Nice one Andy - Paul you could get lots of peeps tel No.s and go to Tony afterwards and say that you have promised to keep them informed of your problems - that would open the can of worms to far greater audience than here and might finally make him sit up and take notice that you shall not be fobbed off.
