I think it’s worth it… especially if you want step by step instructions with photos…
I’m going to join up as soon as I’m home and on a secure network to send the money…I hope they take PayPal

I just went on the Swift Trawler User Group (UK) to register.....but they want a LOT of personal information....and I am not happy to provide it. I will see if I can effect a solution first....if not I will revisit my decision

That's hardly a LOT of personal information. Nothing to stop you putting fake info in any of the fields, other than email,, but why would you ?

Because there’s enough information to hurt you if their site gets hacked. I might be happily working on my toilet hose without realizing that my boat has been put up for sale on eBay.
I honestly try not to disseminate our personal information whenever possible.....I’m not on any social media that isn’t boat or car related.....and neither asked for anything other than perfunctory information. It’s just a personal decision....their are predators out there

I'm pretty fussy about what personal info i put into web sites. Just put fake info in anything you're not comfy with.

The problem is that they want an official boat number....that they can check...and with it cross check your personal information. If I have to go to them I probably will, they have been well recommended and carry a lot of vital information on this project

No suggestion on the site of cross checking personal information. They ask for little personal information and i don't see how they can check your name, email address and telephone number against a boat name or MMSI.

Your choice though.

It’s not something I took lightly as I really wanted to join

I have to say I'm also very careful about putting personal information on the Internet. I joined FB to get access to a group relating to my boat, but I set up a new email address, and do not use my own name.

Yes, and thank you for not pointing out my typing error 😜....the problem is that they want the boat details....probably to keep an archive like any collectors group....but I can’t lie on one part of the form without lying about the boat

Anyhow...I have a plan....starting tomorrow, I will go to the dentist....the day after, French lesson....Saturday back to the boat 😜😁....and begin work👍.
I know I work slowly....but time is on my side as I only have to have it fixed before my next outing....and this is going to involve a lot of awkward positions....so a little each day is best for my back and associated joints😎

A wise move. Even though I was only the gofor assisting my son I f'd up one of my arthritic hips crawling, bending, climbing over a month ago and then f'd up my back trying to put my socks on. I've been going to the hospital every morning this week for pain killing, anti inflammatory injections*. I'm also getting steroid jabs every 3rd morning which I hope will give me more long term relief.
* Bloody anti inflammatory jabs have me farting worse than a cow put out to grass for the first time.

I get it. To be honest, I hesitated too before signing up for the very same reasons. But then I considered they weren’t asking for anything that wasn’t in the public domain (apart from email address and phone number), and I get plenty of spam via both of those channels anyway… I looked at it as a “club” rather than a public forum, so I went for it.. as you say, each of us have our own trust thresholds, so it’s a personal choice.

I appreciate your advice Jerbro....and if I can’t figure this out by myself, I will revisit the situation
