It sounds as though there is plenty of calcium to react with the acid. If there isn't the blockage will be gone. Besides there is presumably plenty of something in the tank for the acid to react with. If not put some water in. I am assuming the tank is S/S.

2HCl + Ca -> CaCl2 + H2
CaCl2 is highly soluble in water (The brick acid is well diluted)
The tank is plastic

Is the existing hose butyl lined or the cheap white stuff? If the former, it would be better going down the unblocking route with acid first. However, i recall that once I used some sort of acid on a 38mm to 25mm plastic reducer that was in the toilet hose, and it melted!

I can no longer trust the hose after yesterday morning’s drama. The boat won’t be going out until it’s replaced.
The problem is that it is already eight years old and our usage really adds to the problem…urine should be thoroughly washed through after each flush….but that fills the tank too quickly…so in the spirit of ‘if it’s brown flush it down…if it’s yellow let it mellow’…we have allowed the uric acid to build up in the hose

I suggest that Bouba cuts new access hatches and replaces that pipe in sections. And don't replace with that awful plastic pipe - use the butyl rubber pipe that is mentioned in this thread. I know he won't take this advice because the butyl rubber is more expensive and harder to source. Butyl rubber pipe doesn't suffer from smells and going hard.

Eventually after working with our old vacuum toilets for years, I took JFM's advice and changed the lot. Pipes changed to butyl rubber and Planus (Tecma quality) toilets fitted. You can't under estimate what a difference this makes to the boat. I would never consider a Jabsco toilet either.
100% agree. Throw it all in the bin and fit Tecma/Planus to replace the Jabsco, and fit 38mm butyl lined pipe instead of 25mm white PVC (that might need a new tank connection - doable) But Bouba will never do this so I didn't even mention it! :)

Ok…I woke up with a bit of energy so decided to have a bit of a root around.
The bad news is that it is cable tied to other pipes and electric wires….so brute force could see a lot of collateral damage.
The other bad news is that I was hoping for better access from the tank end….unfortunately there is a bulkhead exactly at the edge of the tank, this blocks any access forward towards the toilet

If you could feed some sort of ‘feeder wire’ from one end to the other do you actually need to completely remove the old pipe if it is so well attached to other things? Just a thought.

That has occurred to me especially if I can seal up the old pipe to prevent spills and smells

Oh dear…the wife said I could have a Tecma toilet if I take the boat to the professionals to change the hose…she knows I can no longer contort myself into awkward positions😳🤔🤷🏼‍♂️
Still…. I am a man…and I will prove it to her 😜😖 that I am up for the job
Your wife is a sensible lady. You have been given permission for an upgrade that will enhance your relationship, do not ignore this opportunity 😎

Need to reconfigure the pipework with valves so that yellow can be flushed out before it gets to the tank.

I’ve just had another look and sending in a guide wire might be doable.
Trouble is that it takes two people working in harmony…one to catch the other to jiggle…going to have to get the wife aboard

See - we do have good ideas occasionally. And a dollop or two of sealant at each end of the old pipe to keep any old niffs at bay. All we need are air tickets and beer if you need assistance. My IBAN number is,,,,,, 💁

My next step is to follow Jerbro’s advice and go on the Swift Trawler forum…..can’t believe I haven’t done this sooner 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔…oh that’s right…Jerbro said that they want money 😫😧😱
I think it’s worth it… especially if you want step by step instructions with photos…

What if I paid for the ticket and when you arrive it turns out that you aren’t that lithe young person that I need on this job 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔😳
