I am having my mast repainted so all fittings are off. Should I have duralac or Tef Gel around the screws and fittings when they go back

Cannot quite find the answer to direct comparison

Thanks

If you search the forum for Tefgel you will find that it has been discussed several times.

In my opinion it is much better than Duralac. Whilst both will prevent corrosion, Tefgel remains soft for years, is easier to apply, and is easier to clean off if you do get it somewhere you shouldnt.

Tefgel seals the joint to keep water out.

I assume that a chromate paste has some chemical action as well .

Having moved to rod rigging and carbon mast, I was curious about the anti corrosive claims for Tefgel as PTFE, the main constituent, is inert and it isn't clear what other stuff is in it. In the end I used Tefgel where there is movement such as tangs, rod ends, bottle screws and Used Duralac on screws, rivets etc.

We are a mast (alu) and boom (alu, carbon, glass) builder. We strongly recomment Tefgel. It is far more better than Duralac that we used in the past. Even after many years there is no corrosion around the bolt and you unscrew them easily. It prevents electrolise as well.
Best regards.
