Can anybody help me with the carb settings for this little pest, please? I bought one ('97 vintage) at the Netley boat jumble and of course the blasted thing won't go.

I've changed the petrol, cleaned the plug & checked the compression (about 140).

The carb idle screw is about half a turn out & the main screw is about two turns out. Is this right?

Any other tips gratefully received - such as an explanation as to why I got my wallet out?

Thanks

I had problems with mine not starting due to a small filter in the connection from the fuel tank to the carb being blocked. Also Have you checked the plug is actually sparking?

As a final resort try to spraying "engine start" strait into the carb, if it does not start with that - give up!

this is a great little engine provided you turn off the fuel and run it dry each time you use it. When I return from Isha to the slip I turn off the fuel about 30 - 50 metres out and run in until the engine cuts out. failure to do this will prevent the engine from stsrting next time. Something to do with it gumming up I think and you then have to strip it and clean out all the jets etc. If you stick to this routine you should not have a problem.Thats my experience of this engine over the past 5 years.
Maybe the previous owner didn't
Hope this helps
Dave

Thanks for the responses so far - I thought you shouldn't use ether on 2 strokes in case they explode the crankcase - no?

Any idea of those screw settings???

When you finally geddit to run,it is worth remembering that on this little beast the water cooling channels just love to clog up with salt deposits.Remove cyl head and poke around with wire.If you really lucky all four head blots may come out without shearing.Enjoy./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I hope you mean the power head not the cylinder head! The channels that carry the cooling water are underneath the power head ie at the top of the leg. I agree about the bolts though-they shear off and need to be drilled out and re-tapped.

Have you checked the points?
It’s a bit of a faf, you lift off the starter cord assy then, if I remember rightly, an access plate in the centre of the flywheel.
