A few days ago, I wrote a PM to a certain forumite. I have felt sorry for him for quite a while. Firstly, he lost his spectacles when crewing on somebody else's boat which turned turtle in the English Channel.

Then he bought a manky auld boat in Florida which has taken a lot of his time and his wife's earnings to bring up to a suitable condition to bring home. This included a very worrying time when hurricanes were kicking hell out of the boatyard, but our friend's MAB survived.

Knowing that he is planning to bring the boat back to the UK in a few months time, and he will be resting in Bermuda, I pointed out to him that we will be visiting SWMBO's parents in July. I thought I might be able to bring him emergency spares, or take him and crew out for a slap up meal.

How did he respond? I quote -

"How did an ugly git like you manage to catch a bermudan babe all of whom are slim and gorgeous? "

All I can say to that is - your spelling is wrong. Bermudan only describes a sloop, everything native to the island is described as Bermudian. Oh, you can buy own dinner, too.

Yes, he's a grumpy old git, isn't he? Feeling sorry for his boatless plight, we took him to Cherbourg. He disappeared during the evening and we searched the whole of the marina for him. Turned out he wasn't keen on our company and had cadged a berth for the night on a strangers Halberg Rassy, which was more to his taste.
