I have had a look at a Snapdragon 24 and think it is worth a second look. She is out of the water and the mast is down. Has any one any pointers of areas that give trouble on this type boat and that I should look at and pay particular interest to. She has been re-engined a few years ago. Anyone any comments as to her sailing abilities etc.

Although I don't own one (I own a Mirage) I am a member of Snapdragon & Mirage owners club and the
articles in the mag all seem favourable. Performance I think would be staid but the accommodation is
apparently good for its time. If you do buy it the club is good value.

good luck

We had a Snapdragon 24 as our first boat. She was a good solid boat with good accomodation for the size, although performance was not sparkling!
We kept the boat in Poole harbour, where she performed fairly well, although with relatively shallow keels they do make a bit of lee-way. Not so good in a solent chop though.
If the boat has a decent engine, and surveys ok, it should make a reasonable small cruiser for the money, especially in sheltered waters.
Good luck!

Danny,
I have a Snapdragon 747 (metric ,later, version of the 24) I beleive there are not too many differences.
My boat has also been re-engined, Beta 13.5. good for 6kts under power.
First of all what sort of sailing do you want? The Snapdragon is no greyhound and you wont win any races! If you want a dry comfortable sail in inshore waters in reasonable weather OK.
You must try to sail her upright, to windward in a blow you must reduce sail early to maintain control, the small keel and rudder areas will make it impossible to maintain a steady course.
Good accomodation for her size, practically standing headroom and solid consruction are plus points the moulded in keels eliminates keel bolt problems.
Check points: General gas installation and venting. Fresh water tank, this is an internal GRP moulding mine has developed osmosis inside, you could fit a liner if this is a problem, I dont drink this water anyway.
Let me know if I can help further
Regards Trevor

Thanks for all your useful comments. I will bear the points in mind. Any one else with comments please pass them on. This is what the forums are intended for not some of the stupid drivel we sometimes get.. Saying that, I cannot say I am totally innocent!!
