This is a fully working, manual anchor windlass in very good condition. It is double-acting (pulls on both strokes of the handle), with a chain-operated mechanism which runs in an internal oil bath. Included is a user's manual and a aluminium operating handle.
This aluminium-bodied windlass has a rope drum on the port side and a bronze rope/chain gypsy on the starboard side (suitable for handling a rope spliced to chain continuously). The gypsy is the RCA70 to take 8mm chain.
Although these are no longer manufactured, they are simple and robust and give long service. A complete range of parts is available from http://slspares.co.uk/ so you will be able to maintain it indefinitely.
The gypsy is mounted on a greased cone clutch and can be locked with a pawl or released under control using the operating handle (by a standing person). Winding in with the handle is quite rapid but the gearing is low enough to break out an anchor easily. It is advisable to use a deck-mounted chain stopper and a dog (hook) on elastic rope to ensure snubbing loads are not taken by the windlass as it is not designed to do this.
Anything north of £135 taken, or make me a sensible offer if you think it's far too high, (or low)!
