The boom is the one lethal object I can think of. Lots of others that can cause serious injury though.

Perhaps the propellor on a very small motor boat too?

Well I don't know about on a boat but many years ago I was the copilot on a flight with a Flight Engineer under training. The trainer said to his trainee " listen lad there's only two things on this plane that can kill you." Then pointing ahead said " one of them sits there and the other one there! " :)

In 20 odd years of full time sailing, injuries I have had to treat have mostly been caused by top loading fridge lids. Yup, really.

Dehydration, sunburn on occasion (some folk you just cannot help.....)

Seasickness and knock on problems.

Mostly, though its not on the boat, its getting on and off where things go wrong.

That's my experiences, anyway,

Companionway steps?

Worst injury I've seen at sea was a chap who amputated his thumb in a weathertight door. Not many of those on the average yacht though.

The flubber when used for a trip back from the pub in the dark by squiffy occupants.

Or the open fore hatch on the adjacent boat when crossing in the approved manner when moored alongside. Back in the 1970s the skipper managed to fall down one in the dark and wrenched his shoulder badly. The Greek doctor we visited checked all the angles at which the shoulder hurt!

Mike.
