'This month's hot boating topic....'

As we're almost on the cusp of Christmas, with Markets far and near clogging up street parking in towns and cities across Christendom, I thought to raise a minor topic of perhaps transient topical interest....
....and I've popped it in here, rather than in the Lounge. Well, we know what 'mods and 'mins are like, don't we?

I'd picked up one of those colourful, fat catalogues last week from the Force 4 store down at Hamble Services and was sat at home this morning idly flicking through its 251 pages stuffed full of Boat Bling. Milady wandered by, en route to the fresh coffee pot, and innocently queried "Looking for something for your Christmas stocking?"

I'd already turned over some page-corners, as you do, but that raised the question. What could I want for Chrissie, beyond another pair of Port and Starboard Sox?

And - more interestingly - what would YOU want...?

I think I would go for an NMEA 2000 compliant sextant. That way I could navigate using a trusted instrument and time-tested procedures but display the results on one of them newfangled tablet display thingies that people are raving about these days.

AAh, My sextant is too old for an NMEA connection, perhaps I need to upgrade?

A new battery would get us started.
Apparently, the master of the vessel says that we would like to go to Ireland next year, so I'll need some charts. And perhaps some for Norway just in case we both get our own way.
