dunno, not an expert on fluid dynamics.

Had a go on the Gen 1 hull and it was softer than my bavaria and top speed was higher than a similar boat with simlar weight/power plus fuel consumption was, according to the instant VP digi readouts, better.

Fairline's 53 for over a million squid and you cant stand up and was very much a IKea boat, or a prestige which is half the cost, better thought out and still well put together.

The Princess range was fantastic but also very expensive.
 
I thought is was awful, the amount of steps (huge single step from helm to cockpit and another step into the galley, a further two into the aft master, then huge headroom compromise) and lack of headroom plus the bizarre colour scheme/ fabrics.
 
I thought that the Jeanneau boats were by far the best value for money and imaginatively designed. The Targa 36 style Jeanneau with the sliding panels dividing the lounge and master bedroom is a great idea. Maybe the Fairline interior is built of better materials but I don't think it justifies the price difference. How much more fun do you have knowing your cabinetry is real wood veneer rather than synthetic? The price differences would pay for a big seakeeper stabilizer and a lot of diesel. Most boats now have the same engines, drive system, electronics, loos etc. The only differences is the underwater shape and how its all arranged and bolted/glued down.

+1. I was given a tour of the 53 and the sales guy was quite indignant when I queried the dreadful master cabin headroom. Apparently it would make the boat too tall and spoil the lines to provide more headroom. Well, for a million quid I would want a boat where I didn't have to do a limbo to get into bed! Sorry Fairline; beautifully finished boat but I think that's a cock up, and for me could be a deal breaker if I were spending that amount. Much of the rest of the boat was great though, and I particularly liked that it was possible to helm with one's head sticking out the top of the sunroof - ace.

As for Jeanneau and Beneteau, (didn't bother with Bavaria), no their finish isn't in the same category as Fairline, Princess or Sunseeker, but then neither are their prices. As has always been the case, you pays your money and takes your choice. I really liked the Prestige 420S coupe of which I was offered a well specified example for £285k - a bargain against the Brits.

I haven't found any Monte Carlo HTs at less than E140k anywhere .... I'd like to know where if you can remember! I usually check Yacht World but there are one or two locally ... a very nice 2010 HT at E160k (or less!).

edit: Just spotted - you were talking GBP and I was talking Euros .... only been living here since June and already thinking like a frogeigner!

We had a great day out on Friday and had lunch when it rained. Liked the Brooms ( vested interest ) and also found the Fleming 75. For us it was the best thing there by nautical miles as regards quality and style - price must be mindbending. Thought Sunseeker, Fairline and Princess all seemed to offer the same in varying degrees of size and price though looked very glamourous.
Got a good deal on some UK made ropes, thanks Dean & Reddyhof for the tickets!

Yes, thanks for that one .... it's also listed by a French broker at E140k but without the flowery decoration and different canvas work .... bit odd but worth an e-mail though! Maybe some of them were older/newer pics or perhaps they tidied it up a bit .... big reduction! I'm awfully tempted by a white one here at E160k. (gulp!). Got invited aboard a red one, right next door to the white one I'm keen on, by its Belgian owner - gave me so much bull that I wouldn't have bought it anyway! Some people haven't yet figured out that you can get any info about anything on the internet ... I knew more about it than he did! I was very impressed with the boat, in spite of the owner! Was asking E185k so away with the fairies. Big hefty thing which ought to be good in a seaway.
