We had exactly the same happen to us two weekends ago in Brighton. I booked the berth three days before we were due to arrive and received an email confirmation. When we arrived we waited for 30 minutes floating around for them to find us a berth - taking two attempts as the first berth they directed us to had a boat in it.

When I went to pay, someone called on the radio to get out of the inner harbour and we're told they would have to wait 45 minutes as he was the only person on. To me, it looked like someone is cutting overheads and the place is run down and dirty.

i did email back the marina administrator who confirmed the berth to complain and ask what I should do in future to make sure this doesn't happen - I.e give more notice, call an hour beforehand etc. I still await a response. Will be interested to know if you complain, if they bother to reply.

We go every year to Brighton, early in the season as for me it gives the boat a good run after the Winter and my wife and daughter to go shopping. It is such a shame that we experienced such poor service as before it was one of the best with even the marina manager coming down and introducing himself and welcoming us to the marina.

Complain to their head office, don't mess about with the local management, straight to the top, gives them an opportunity to remedy. How they deal with it will speak volumes.

Surely when they accept you as a visitor for a short term stay, and expect you to pay their fees you then become, albeit only for the short term, a berth-holder. This should entitle you contractually to enjoy all the Privileges and Responsibilities of any berth-holder on reasonably equal terms - you can use the trolleys, you shall also pick up your dog's doodah (for which considering its sheer vastness they should also provide reasonable facilities for disposal of same).

Personally we had a reasonable stay in Brighton last year and found the staff friendly and very helpful, and we picked up our doggies pooh, but not sure I am in any urgent rush to return. Berthed next to the back of those awful garish flats that look like low grade industrial units, with water around us so dirty and full of crud I would hate anyone to fall in - not quite the Beaulieu River is it !

I would find the email of the head office and CC the Manager at said Marina, with a reference to this thread, so they can see what others say as well.

I'm sure this will get to the top.
There have been a lot of managerial changes recently around the group of Solent premier marinas, some staff are doing jobs at different marinas( not sure it will work) all I can say is we have the right man at Swanwick now, I know him personally , he has done everything possible to sort out my issues , where the previous manager just buried his head and only answered when I had to make my point.
Times seem to be hectic at the moment, yard space has been tight this is always a busy time for yards and I'm sure that the top brass are trying to keep the staff levels down to please the share holders.
A friend of mine is friends with the chairman of the company that owns Premier along with al the other automotive group, maybe a whisper in the right ear would help solve issues. Really this should never happen but it does.

I wouldn't want to stay in a marina where other boat owners turn it into something like that. They need to be looking at who they have berthing there and getting the place cleaned up. The staff clearly need a a kick up the backside but so do some berth holders I would think.

That sounds like a horrible experience, but I think I'm more shocked by the behaviour of the dog owners who I presume own boats as well.

Thanks all - To be honest the pictures, and what I posted were our true experience - noting to exaggerate....These days I don't really expect too much "customer service!" so I wasn't that bothered with the waiting time etc. but then it comes to a point when you say to yourself; "enough is enough" - For god sake, of course I need a trolley to move the stuff out of the boat... but then...

We are back to our home marina - I will send an email to their management team; and if there is any update will post here - So until then Thanks and Happy Boating to you all!

As a boat owner and a dog owner I clean up after my mutts, even if they pee on the pontoons I reach for the closest hose and wash it down.
Dog owners are responsible for their pooches and letting your dog mess on the pontoon or anywhere else and not cleaning it up is unacceptable.
As far as the marina in question is concerned be aware people move their boats and listen to this forum.
If I was them I would get an apology to the visitor and post on here PDQ

Kick up backside for staff,by new management, paid for by increase in berthing fees, kicking berth holders,to pay for new management.

+1
It's dog owners like these that could dogs banned in the future. That would be a sad loss for owners like us. If caught, if caught on camera, a fine should be enforced. It's not fair to other berth holders or visitors.

Still, some marinas are more like working yards and cleanliness is hard to maintain. Brighton isn't one of them though. This is just neglect.

I am truly amazed at the poor service you seem to have received and also the state of the place. I'm a premier berth holder in Chichester and the service received there is at the other end of the scale from your experience. I haven't been to Brighton marina for a few years and won't be rushing there now.

I know all marinas are different. Some run by very caring staff, others by less so...... I have the same issues with some of the people I employ. I pride myself on hi standards and attention to the customers needs so when I find staff not giving the same care I take it personally...... But hey thats life and will always be so.

Simply put it isn't good enough and the new MD will know this....... Lets see what happens. If it helps make Brighton a better marina, we'll all benefit.

I'm not a Premier berth holder but I broke down at the weekend in Port Solent which is Premier owned and they couldn't have been more helpful. Mike the duty manager even ran myself and family to the nearest train station. Port Solent is a well run clean marina so Brighton does not seem representative of their brand.
My experience with their marina's has always been very positive so this needs fixing fast as a good reputation is very difficult and costly to build but a bad experience can ruin this overnight for free!!
