I need to replace the water and temperature senders and gauges on my engine - a 1978 marinised Ford - 72h.p.. Both seem to have the same thread but I can't work out what it is!. It is a machine thread with an outside diameter of 10.3mm and approx 1 thread per mm. The gauges are imperial so I thought perhaps an NPT thread?
Can anyone advise?

go to a car accessory shop for the senders, they're about 10 quid each, but beware. the resistance needed varies, so you need to get the right colour... indicated by a plastic band around the post.

if you can blag it go to a scrappie, armed with a 12mm, and 13mm deep socket and "borrow" some to try. once you've got the right ones replace with new.

i think the diesels use a black one, but a red one might be close.

good luck, ans i think the thread is a 3/8 UNF one, but with a taper... whatever thats called.
