Seeing as we like 4 x 4\'s NB

Fuel economy is the question, what you got and what do you get.

Me - Nissan Navara - 03 Plate - 2.5 l tdi - 28 - 31 per gallon.

And what pigs me off is that diesel is now more expensive the Unleaded /forums/images/icons/mad.gif

Range Rover V8 petrol. Never did fuel economy tests on it. Its 22 years old 100 odd K miles on the clock and pulls the boat 120 miles on a quater of a tank of juice.

Re: Seeing as we like 4 x 4\'s NB

Range Rover 3.0TD - 21mpg
Discovery V8 - 10mpg

Chipped my last 2.5 diesel Range Rover, advised not to chip new until out of warranty, becuase BMW can tell if it has been chipped, even if you remove it.

As far as I know it will last almost as long as with, but the extra power must wear the engine a bit faster.

petrol figure, eek

Merc ML petrol 52 plate I think, with a digital mpg readout, instantaneous and average. 13.5mpg average round town, 18mpg on a fast motorway run, 22mpg on a lightfooted motorway run. I think we need a diesel conversion.....

classic Range rover and new range rover V8, both about 13 mpg around town. long trips maybe 19/20, pulling a boat of 1000kg on long trips then about 17/18. overall about 16 I suppose. the 3.5efi has a new engine but is still as thirsty as the 4 litre new shape, but a far nicer sound!
may also go for a defender V8

Re: petrol figure, eek

Not much better for a diesel ML, Im afraid. I found it difficult to get better than 25-28 MPG from an 03 ML270 and it was like driving a shed on solid rubber tyres !
At least I get 20-25MPG out of my '98 4litre petrol Ford Explorer with 120Kmiles on the clock but it only costs around 15% of the cost of the ML

Re: Seeing as we like 4 x 4\'s NB

My old knackered Jeep Cherokee 4l petrol. 170k on the clock Lucky to get 18mpg, lot less round town. Tows well on the few occasions I've done so.

More interesting to me, as the reason I keep a 4x4 on, is that local roads can flood over 3 feet deep for months at a time in winter. Interested in the recent Touareg TV advert where the Touareg drives into water at speed, and water goes up over car. Anyone know how water capable this vehicle is? Last thing I need is getting white van driver coming in the other direction at speed with a bow wave, and getting water in the engine, as the number of vehicles which have lost engines on that lane are legion!

questioning virility of M Class

cheeky bugger! Glad you got 10mpg, at least I'm not bottom of class. :)

It's the wife's car, she chose it 100%, she wanted the 7 seats so ruled out most others

Re: petrol figure, eek

Yup we (t'missus actually) had a Y reg 270 and only got about 19mpg if I recall (town use), and pretty slow/dull. Not a great engine that one..... We even tried soltron in it, posted 100hrs of results on here a few years ago, made no difference to mpg. So swapped it for an ML500 petrol. Similar fuel cost (petrol being a bit cheaper, and a lot cheaper if you eliminate the soltron) but 300hp auto so it is quicker off the lights. Still a total shed though, handlingwise. Can't wait to get rid of it and replace, as soon as something suitable is made, but need a fast 7 seater so very little choice

I hardly ever drive it cos it just uses to much petrol, will sell it when i get round to it. Fancy another Defender, probably a double cab pick-up.

I only kept mine for 6 months, I wouldn't have kept it for that long but the garage wouldn't return my calls. Spent the money on the boat instead so much happier now !

how much does the chip cost might be worth looking at.

Yes, you get more bhp and better fuel economy, not sure how. I think mine was a PowerBox, was fitted by the Landrover dealer.
