Quick follow up on this:
I had a good chat with the guys in January and they were most helpful! I took the unit off, sent it to them and they fixed it at a pretty reasonable rate. I definitely recommend to anyone that if they want to take it off, they use the opportunity to dismantle the pump of the loo as well and also clear out the outlet pipe. Getting the seasmart's little pipe out of the loo is a job requiring marigolds, so you might as well carry on and get it all sorted. The little unit is now back on the wall, so far so good! We've only done day sailing so far, but it'll get a proper test over the Easter break.
Last follow up: Works like a treat. When we are there, the odours are kept well under control. Our pipe is fairly short.
And, as I take out the battery when we leave and flush through using the prime button when we get back, we are still on the first bag this season.

Just bought a boat with this system installed. About to buy some new pouches but worrying statement on their website:

Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances SeaSmart will be closed until the end of May 2023 for the sale of units and repairs. Refills will still be available from our Online Shop

It's now mid July and I wondered if the business was still viable, if not, what to refill an old pouch with?

Replacement pouches are available from many chandlers. We were recently sent a small shim and some instruction/link to a vid to cut a small plastic nib off. Anyway eventually got round to it and it has worked this summer. Certainly agree not as good with holding tank/long pipe run. This our second one though. If tying I would refill pouch using a syringe and the boat toilet cleaner -do report on whether it works .

Could you send further info on the repair you did please? (We also have a holding tank/ long pipe run)

I will see if I can find the slip with the details of the repair vid but if you ring then they send the shim and details of the vid -perseverance is required with them and they do have features common to most marine businesses.

Yes -look on utube and search how to fix a sea smart that is draining out too quickly -that shows him inserting the shim-I would suggest taking unit off bulkhead though before attempting repairs -nice stable table on boat safely moored in marina as fiddly operation

…Always pump 25 times when leaving boat.
As a newbie…they taught us to ALWAYS pump a minimum of 25 times.

Idea being to empty the pipe entirely as it’s a mixture of salt water and urea crystals which cause most blockages!

No idea how true this is, but doesn’t seem smelly or block prone!

Yes but I would say seasmart addresses different issue to that of pumping based on limited knowledge .
They do. The boat we're on at the moment has two heads (no Seasmart). When one heads hasn't been used for a few days, the flush (sea) water stinks. It's caused by bacteria growing in the stagnant water between the sea cock and the toilet pump. The Seasmart injects disinfectant internally into this pipe down at the sea cock and so the sea water sitting in the pipe is sterilised and doesn't pong when you flush. Whether you pump 5 or 50 times won't change this, nor will rinsing with fresh water afterwards. Only boats with fresh water flush or one of these devices will avoid this. No connection with the business but I can see how it works.

Yes but pump as much as u like and leave the boat and it will still smell. Pumping makes no difference . The ideal solution is probably freshwater but seasmart a second choice.

How much of a problem is inlet pong really? It takes but seconds to pump the smelly inlet water through, and then the problem is gone (and even that is only required when the boat has not been used for days/weeks).

How do all you sensitive souls manage with the odours of normal toilet use?

So pumping does make a difference - (1) when returning to the boat after a period out of use enough pumps to draw 'fresh' seawater through, and (2) enough pumps (depending on outlet pipe length) after the toilet has been used minimises/slows the build up of blockage in the outlet.

The smell in question that is solved by Seasmart is nothing to do with the outlet side so how much you pump out is irrelevant - it’s simply bacteria in the inlet side and the usual amount of pumping out to clear the outlet side will have long since refreshed the inlet side. It’s unfortunate when you are bringing someone to see the boat and they use the loo first it will be deeply odorous. We are in a river marina and the water is obviously rich in bacteria. It is problem even a couple of days later.

Having used the SeaSmart for a few weeks now, it seems to work and although the replacement SeaSmart pouches are readily available, I am concerned about the longevity of supply and the sheer cost of the replacement per fl oz. The nozzle bags are readily available on Ebay and I intend to refill with Ecover Toiler Cleaner and see how I get on with that.

Seasmart still don’t appear to be back in business - anyone have any further info? Was thinking of buying into the system….
I sent my five year old unit back for repair earlier in the summer and got it back in late May. I’m very happy with it - and without it my seawater inlet pipe does smell when first flushed after time away.

A Jabsco inlet filter/strainer [or similar] fitted near inlet and filled with urinal tablets keeps my inlet piping 'sweet'.
