It is a nice stopover I had a weekend there with the kids a few years back, dried out with the tide and took a hovercraft ride to Southsea and back rather than the other way around.

Not been for a while as I need really really soft mud to dry out my current boat and relaxing is hard with a tiny tide window.

Shame if it has become inaccessible.

Website is hardly up to the minute........

August 2000 .... already the entrance was getting less deep .... We liked to berth as deep in as possible - but could only get near the inner wall at high tide.

Dried out and mending genny !!

I tried to go in a couple of years ago and chickened out at just after HW a few hundred yards out with a couple of feet of water under my keel (I drew a bit under a metre).

There seems to have been talk about dredging properly a major upgrade. It'd be a real shame if it's only talk.

Well it seems there is good news. The town council has taken over the marina from the island council.

The website I posted earlier is the legacy Isle of Wight Council website

The town council website is here

Ryde Marina – Ryde Town Council

News in there about investment and the dredging.

Hope they do better than the idiots who dredged out entrance to Lielupa River over here .... charged a fortune for the job ... took 2x the time to do it ... AND actually dredged the OLD channel that hadn't been seen since early 1900's ... instead of the later straighter channel which was contracted.

Sadly another example of a failed iow council project -in fact one can tour the failed ice rink at ryde ,failed Westridge swimming pool up by Tesco, crumbling ryde town hall, failed boating lake and then take in the failing floating bridge 6 having journeyed along the failing roads past the st Mary’s hospital ( failing but clearly not council controlled) . Venture to Ventnor and see the failing harbour there .
Then take a look at the poor performance of the local schools if you really want to be depressed.
